The whole point is not to have someone without the key drive off with your car. So you have to "start" it once you, and the key, are inside. Inconvenience or security feature? I can live with it. It is better than my '15 Outback which shut off once the door opened and you had to actually restart the car.

Thanks for the confirmation. My first car with starlink so I wasn't too sure. Minor inconvenience that I can deal with.

Tried the remote start for the first time yesterday. Does the system not allow you to drive off unless you restart the car?
I’m not sure what you mean by restart. You simply unlock, get in with key in car and put foot on brake and press start button. This allows the car to confirm the key is inside to start driving. I don’t know any remote start system that doesn’t require something be done to drive away if remote started.

When I unlocked the car I wasn't able to get the car out of P. I thought I did everything but don't recall if I pressed the brake and the start button. Definitely going to give that a try next time.

Thought it didn't make much sense but if that was Subarus safety feature, can't really do anything about it.

I am assuming you have the push button start but if you do you def do not have to turn the car off and restart it. Once remote started unlock the door while car is still running and with key inside car press brake pedal and push start button. The center dash should give you this Instruction too and once done will say ready to drive.
If you have the key then I’m not entirely sure if the process is the same or not. Sorry.

Yep have the push button and will be giving this a try later on tonight.

Should STARLINK work on Day 1 of car purchase and upgraded subscription?
It partially worked for a few hours for me, on day one, and then didn't work as everything was being fully set up. By some time between Day 3 and Day 7, it started fully working for me.

Regardless, try killing the app, restarting the app, and logging back in and see if that works. Sometimes, the app keeps running after your session is invalidated.

I can’t even log in. Online or app. Nothing.

You need to set up your MySubaru.com account. Then, enter your VIN when you set up your car profile. After that, the app will work.

I'm confused about Starlink, the free app download and what it does for me, and the paid version and what it does for me. Is there a chart or list comparing them somewhere?

Also, I see people in the forum mentioning that you can get remote start with Starlink instead of buying the actual fob. How does that work?

Finally, our salesperson showed us a photo of an Outback that one of his customers had been in that had been in a horrendous wreck. The driver, a teenaged girl, got out with only a single injury--her thumb sprained because something small in her lap [I think?] got thrown against her thumb by the airbags.

His story--that Starlink [I think?] was talking to her within seconds of her wreck, telling her that they'd already called the cops and they were on the way, and asking about her physical condition, etc. Is this part of what Starlink does if you pay for it?

Also, as a side bit, the reason he was showing us this and telling us about it was so we could see the damage [wow, how did anybody come out of that alive?] and explain that all the various airbags had cushioned and saved her. The cops showed up talking about dreading about looking inside, even as they rushed to see if the occupant/s needed help. Nobody was there. It took the teenaged girl several tries before she could get their attention and tell them that she was the driver and she'd hurt her thumb. LOL

You want the MySubaru app and you need to subscribe to the Starlink service (which is similar to OnStar). With the MySubaru app and the Starlink Security Plus service you can remotely start/stop car, lock/unlock doors, and some other things. The Starlink safety plus service includes the feature that contacts authorities if the air bags deploy. I believe there is a 3 or 6 month free trial period for both services but after that you must pay for it. When I bought a year ago there was discounted pricing available if you signed up before the trial ends, not sure if that is still the case.

The Starlink app is a poor man's version of carplay/android auto and is totally worthless.

Hello all... signing all paperwork on Monday when the bank opens on a new Ascent. Question on MySubaru App and Starlink App.

MySubaru App -> The app I'd use if I pay for the Safety and Security Play to start my car, is that correct?

Starlink App -> I wouldn't use because I'd use Android Auto for any app I wanted to use in the infotainment system? Is that correct?

Basically I'm trying to decide when I go back Monday if I should pay the extra $ for the use of the app for the remote starter. I read the reviews for the Starlink App in Google Play which were dismal to say the least. Then I came on here and it seems that I don't even need to download the Starlink App if all I care about is the remote starter..is that accurate?

I basically don't want to pay for the extra package if it doesn't work for most people.. and I am getting confused by the reviews on the Starlink App that it sucks.. and now am trying to sort out of I should just ignore the Starlink App reviews because if all I care about is the remote starter that I really should be looking at the MySubaru App?

Also.. is there any use of the Starlink App if you have Android Auto? Is there anything the Starlink App can do that Android Auto can't?

thanks for any guidance!!
