I just spoke to the folks at Subaru of Merrillville. They said they’d honor the VIP pricing on factory orders . Im not sure how many dealers are still honoring this, so I was very excited. I’m making my donation to the ASPCA shortly!

As I'm sure most of you have seen, some dealers have the gall of slapping a $5K+ markup over MSRP. Over the last month, May 2022, I called a few dealerships about the VIP program here in Southern California and all I got was crickets. Are we surprised? Paid a visit to a few, even some on the original list, and most said they didn't honor it or that you had to buy the dealer installed protection crap for $3K. For those willing to deal with Costco, it was only $300 below MSRP. Fortunately we found someone willing to work with us. Sherman Oaks Subaru would take an order, sell what they had coming, or what was in stock on the lot.

We missed out on the 2% below invoice by a couple of months, but we beat the $500 increase for whatever is currently on its way, i.e. in transit, and future orders. Buying off the lot wasn't so bad becasue of invoice pricing along with a loyalty coupon (they really complained about that one ;)). I feel fortunate because we really needed to replace our totaled Legacy. Hooray for the ASPCA and SOA! For us it is like "Yes, Virgina there is a Santa Claus".

Now almost every dealer in MA accepts VIP prices if you can wait 3 months for the custom order, otherwise, you need to pay an additional $1500-2500 for the car on the dealer's lot.

Yeah, that premium is what I was expecting for something in the now. When we were doing our boots on the ground recognissance, our first point of contact salesperson at Sherman Oaks told us it was no problem, "whatever the VIP programs says we can do". In my head my jaw was dropping because someone was finally talking about it. With everyone else it was as if I had become invisible. My little inner voice was "I'll believe it when I see it". I told my sister on the spot "we found our dealership".

Funny thing, we needed a rental car and we were a few blocks away when it dawned on us that they also rent out cars. We went back and rented out one of their loaner Outbacks. The next time we went to return the rental and start the sales process we found our as of yet unamed unit. I wanted a blue Onyx without the moon-roof but that was going to take time. Anybody with a young teen that plays team sports knows you need wheels now, not a few months down the road. So we "settled". Boohoo, I know.

So far, this dealership is doing well for us. They posted the Ascent to MySubaru already and have us scheduled for our first service appointment in December.

I started a list of dealers that I've reached out to in order to see if they accept VIP Pricing.

Adventure Subaru in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Just picked up my VIP order on a 2023! Great process from start to finish, easy to work with, and no added dealer fees or other additions. They even cover the $99 for the first 3 years of Starlink and 2 years of maintenance. Highly recommended dealership!

See if you can get a longer subscription than three years if you intend to keep the vehicle longer than three years...annual renewals are quite expensive. I believe the current discounted subscription program has up to five years available. (it was seven when I bought my MY19)

The longest they offer now is 5 years at $250. I will be getting a prorata refund on my starlink renewal for my 2019 and go with the max 5 year plan. I will be paying with credit card on that so it is not rolled into finance.

If you are still updating the list I got email confirmation from the following additional Subaru dealerships in Central Texas that they accept Subaru VIP and on the Ascent:

-Subaru of Austin (already confirmed by others)
-Cleo Bay Subaru (Killeen)
-Subaru of Georgetown (Georgetown)
-Subaru Dominion (San Antonio)
Do you know if others in the area do also? Gilman in San Antonio and North Park in San Antonio?
