Correct.

Absolutely NO weight distributing or anti sway hitch. Subaru engineers know how they designed the Ascent.

Using one WILL damage your Ascent.

Use the OEM receiver, and the hitch that comes with it, or a highly rated drop hitch.
Just bought a 2025 Ascent Limited. Subaru advertises a 5000 lb. towing limit. They will install a receiver and a hitch but not a brake controller which they require for 1000 lb. +. They have also told me if I have a controller installed I risk voiding my warranty. Is that not deceptive advertisements? I tried to sign up on this forum but couldn't find a link. Here is my email.

Dealers say the darndest things...sometimes they are stupid and downright incorrect. Installing a brake controller will not "void your warranty". Subaru actually has a receptacle under the dash to plug it in. The OEM Hitch Receiver Accessory includes the necessary wiring additions to provide a fully functional towing setup that you just need to add your brake controller of choice. (Tekonsha and ReDarc are the most popular)

BTW, do not buy a ball mount until you know what the actual drop/rise you need for your specific trailer. That has to be measured directly with the trailer sitting level so you can determine the correct ball height for that trailer. (a 6" drop puts the ball at about 18-19" above the ground which is great for a small utility trailer or UHaul, but not likely appropriate for a travel trailer.

A tongue weight of 400 pounds will drop the rear of the Ascent about 2.5 inches. Take that into account too.
