The 501's/502's? Absolutely. Subaru has run the 501's and 502's for brutal rally racing.

The 503's? I wouldn't run them. Too low of a load rating for me. Everything else, from the pavement up, has a safety factor built in (as my friends at Falken confirmed when we were making inflation charts for the Ascent for their various tires). Two pound safety margin is statistically negligible (1/10th of a percent).

Yes, one can legally run them - or any wheel that's rated at 1,648 pounds or more. I like maintaining a safety margin instead of getting rid of it.

WheelSizes That FitLoad Rating
Method 501's18", 20" (17's don't fit - different barrel shape - rubs)1,850 pounds
Method 502's17", 18", 20" (note that 17's require special balancing)1,850 pounds
Method 502's VT Spec18", 20" (17's reportedly don't fit at all - different barrel)2,100 pounds
Method 503's18", 20"1,650 ponds - I WOULD NOT RUN THESE.
There's virtually NO safety margin. A wheel's rating must be 1,648 pounds or higher for the Ascent (by law/by math).
That leaves TWO pounds safety margin.
Really great information, Robert ... wow. Nice work. This could save a life.

Where are you seeing the 502 VT Spec in any size outside of 15" ? I saw advertisements like this one however, it's mislabelled - the part number is for the regular spec 502.

Further, the 502 VT Spec product page lists it as: "Think of it as the 15 in. version of the Rally wheel version"

I'm not, any more. The info was a copy/paste or retype from a very popular tire site. And to think, I'm the one who's said in the past to always double check listing information, lol!

Good catch - I will fix my original post.

Damn! It would've been a good treasure hunt to find New Old Stock if they were out of production. Ohwell.

Method 501 17" will not fit
Method 502 17" will fit
Method VT-Spec 17" will not fit

Method 501 18" should fit unless they changed something.

You will love the Wildpeaks. My son and I both run them on our Subies. He has an Ice Silver lifted '14 Crosstrek with black Methods and Wildpeaks ... looks really good. Also would suggest that you get someone (or DIY) to do a chrome delete on your white Ascent. The chrome window bezel, rocker trim, grille surround and rear hatch trim, all look better if you get them wrapped, IMHO. Particularly on a white car with black wheels. I had everything shiny wrapped on my magnetite gray Ascent and I am really happy with how it turned out. Also was able to stuff 31" overall diameter Wildpeaks on my car with no rubbing and no lift-kit.
Did you get the 31" overall diameter Wildpeak AT Trails on the ascent? Or the at3? What were the dimensions on them?

They WILL rub under certain conditions. Just depends on how/where you drive.

Is that for the 255/65/18 AT Trail?
Just remember, if you upsize your tires, you must also upsize your spare to match the diameter with an AWD/4WD vehicle to avoid damaging the drive train should you need to run on the spare. The cost and physical accomodation of that has to be part of your decision.
