I’m in the process of looking for a new SUV that fits my needs for a new vehicle. My needs are to be able to fit 3 Greco Slim 3-1 car seats preferably to fit two of the car seats on the third row; second row captains chairs as the two grandchildren can’t yet buckle themselves in plus ease in getting in & out. And the luxury item for me a sun/moonroof. My first choice was the Kia Telluride, but the dealerships in my area are marking up over the MSRP by close to $5,000. I don’t want it that bad! In researching the mid-size SUVs that will fit these needs, I happened across the Subaru Ascent. I have not yet seen one in our area & have not yet been to the dealship but have gone to several websites. I happened upon this forum and would like to know what you love, dislikes and most of all if you had the choice again, would you purchase?

Other vehicle on my list: Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder did have the Hyundai Palisade & Kia Telluride.

Thanks in advance for your thought!

Welcome! I looked at the Telli & Pali twins also. Aside from the rip-off "Market Adjustment" of up to $10K at one dealer, the Subaru has a more proven AWD system. The others are basically front-wheel drive cars with the option to send some power to the rear axle in some situations. I don't know where you live, but if driving conditions require AWD or 4x4 capabilities, the Ascent is the better choice. The Ascent also has a superior safety rating compared to the others you mentioned. I never use the 3rd row seats, but many say they are better than most other competing SUVs. I have the Onyx with captains chairs, which fits my needs of 4 adults seated comfortably, with plenty of cargo room left.

I really haven’t seen too many Subarus in my area, but we have two dealerships in in the greater area.

Thank you for responding & I did find a you tube video that was posted & the 3 row will accommodate two car seats. I’m excited to test drive!

It's strange that you have not seen an Ascent in your area, given MY23 is the fourth model year!

Relative to your car seats questions, we have a discussion area dedicated to that here at the Ascent Forum that might be helpful to you:

You can believe that when you check the shipper's website and see them on a BOL. I'm lucky enough to live a mere three or so hours away from the factory. As such, I know my dealer uses Cassens to transport them and I can use the Cassens tracking website to see what vehicles and even VINs are arriving on each delivery. If I want the specifics, I throw the VIN into the customer resources section of the Subaru website. The only thing that gets wrong is the color of the vehicle shown in the picture at the top of the screen. My VIN shows a picture of a white car on that screen but my order clearly states Autumn Green. :p

Not that any of that speeds things up or alleviates any anxiety but it's still something fun to do while waiting.

We are very happy with our 2019 Ascent (7 passenger). We have not had all three grandkids in car seats in it at once, but we did take trips when there were 2, for a total of six people and we were comfortable (we had luggage on the roof due to the amount needed with little kids, as you know!). We are in the Northeast, so benefit from the drive train. I had an Infiniti G35 and then a G37 and liked them (these were not replaced by the Ascent-the Ascent replaced an Outback since that only held 5). And Packard8 is right-the acceleration is brisk off the line, but not like a G37. Have a beignet for me!

If you live in one of the two areas of the northeast US that are serviced by distributors rather than direct from SoA, these corporate resources may not work for you until you actually take delivery. Dealers in that area do not order from SoA...they order from their respective distributor and the systems are different. Even pricing is sometimes different.

If referring to the lack of delivery info I mentioned above, I am in Washington state, near Seattle.

I'll ask my dealership if they have any tips on making the info show up.
