Bought a 2019 Ascent Limited in July '24 with 78k miles. It ran perfectly for the first 3k or so miles of ownership, but, after going past 81k miles, we have had several instances of CVT slip.
It looks and sounds exactly like the ones I've seen people post on Youtube: A squeal/chirp sound accompanied by a momentary loss of power and the tach jumping a few hundred RPMs. So far it only happens during mild acceleration, like while cruising on the highway and give the gas a little nudge to maintain speed.
It's so intermittent that I'm certain it won't happen while a mechanic is test-driving or riding in the vehicle. (It's happened like 8-10 times -- about once every 50-100 miles.)
Subaru's recall page says "Ascent CVT Chain Guide Breakage with CVT Oil Cooler" recall work was NOT completed on this vehicle.
Do I take it to the shop now? Wait until it's more frequent? Is it worth it to have the TCU reprogramming done that was part of that recall? (Browsing the forums here, I didn't find anyone saying the TCU reprogram actually solved the problem for them.)
Thanks!
