Dropped the car off last night for the Hood Panel Vibration TSB 12-281-20 (adhesives and applicator were already procured) and the the recent Judder Concern During Low-Speed Acceleration TSB. He called around 2pm to tell me they were going to take care of BOTH issues, but the adhesive needed 24 hours to cure, which I already knew. No big deal.

Service Rep just called. "Sorry, I have some bad news. Your hood slipped off while we were working on it and got scratched." (I didn't think removing the hood was necessary: TSB PDF)

He said he needs to send it off to the body shop to get taken care of and it will take 2-3 days ... but he has a loaner for me and will make it right. He said he wanted to be honest and make it better than it was when it came in.

I am not complaining at all. Just an unfortunate accident and the dealership (so far) is owning the mistake and going to fix it. I guess we'll see! :)

It would have been easy for the dealer to tell you some story to delay your picking up the car, meanwhile they'd repair the damage and just give you the car back without telling you what really happened. Instead, they were honest about damaging it. Something similar happened to me while visiting TN where I now live. I needed a rear driver's side wheel bearing replaced and the tech at Wallace Imports in Johnson City broke the speed sensor in the process of putting it back together. They could have told me they found the sensor was damaged but they immediately informed me as to what happened and got a rental for me for the next two days while they waited for the new sensor. I appreciate their honesty. Since moving here to TN, I've now bought two Ascents from them.

Make damn sure it matches, put it in different types of lighting, angles, etc. Before signing anything that says you agree/approve of the work. You only get one shot at having them fix it and fix it right. It's really, really hard to match 1 single body part like that and it will drive you mad if it does match. Also, be sure that it doesn't show up as an accident or your resale/trade in value with tank big time!!!
