Where did you end up Cutting the hole in the cargo bay exactly?
The core wiring is already in the car. Following the OEM instructions will show you where the wire goes through.

Hello, newbie Ascent owner here. Thanks for all the information posted, but I do have a question. Looking at the OEM install instructions, it doesn't seem to point to running a separate 12V to the battery, it just shows clipping the tow hitch wiring harness directly to the car-side harness in the cargo bay. Can you point me in the right direction to the video (I can't find the links in any of the forum posts for some reason) to route the 12V wire or is this not necessary? I'm trying to wire up a 4/7 pole connector as well. Thank you so much.
As long as you have a Premium or better, that wiring is already there. The 7 pin connects to a harness in the rear cargo area.

If you have a Base, the wiring is not there, and I don't think you can route it the same way.

Where do people run the wires to the back? Along the flooring under the carpet/door trim? Or under the car?
I'm making you a vid...

@Chado

Sorry, just a really quick thing. Still have my car disassembled and need to leave in 36 hours.

Hope it helps.

Anyone else have ideas?

Hi, deets and pics when I get back to civilization. Between off roading trails right now and about to head deep into nowhere again.

Reviving an old thread for a dumb question: the OEM harness doesn’t use a dedicated wire to the battery. That leads me to believe I could connect the black wire for the 7 way towing hitch to the factory wire that powers the Subaru wiring harness, right?
It DOES use a dedicated wire. It's where the Subaru integration unit plugs into.

Also, unless you bought the eBay clone hitch, what do you need a 7 pin connector for? Not for towing, I hope...
