How do the TPMS sensors have to be serviced when the tires are replaced?
I'm thinking the original post should have said "wheels replaced", as in if you had two sets of wheels you swap back and forth (such as for winter tires). I read that "self-registration" thing as the 2020 and prior vehicles need specific programming by the dealer before the car will be able to read the sensors, and the 2021 change is it would be able to read whatever sensors are installed on the car automatically, without the need for programming.

Ok, thanks. A lot of new cars today require some dealer level non-sense to do even simple stuff, like replacing a battery in some vehicles, although even my 2009 BMW bike doesn't have an owner resetable service reminder.

I wouldn't swear to what I said being the truth, but I imagine that's what the change is. It doesn't make a lot of sense to require any programming of the TPMS for only a tire replacement.

Let's hope they add a dose of refinement in build quality and the 2.4/CVT
A little more power would be nice too, especially on the bottom.

Anybody know why a tungsten Sube is so hard to locate? Here in the PNW, last week I searched through the dozen or so dealership inventories up here and found one and one only Limited in tungsten with the tech package we needed. That shop of course was closed for the virus. We ended up “settling“ for a touring which does not come in tungsten.

I suspect it is part to the pandemic for supply and demand. Also I don't believe tungsten is a high deman color for Subaru owners

I feel your pain. I wanted a plum crazy purple Challenger RT and now they discontinued it. Have you thought of ordering a car?

Good morning all,

Subaru released to us the training for the 2021 Ascent this morning. In it are all the updates to the 2021 model coming later this year.

Tungsten has been eliminated as a color choice, being replaced on Premium, Limited and Touring models with Brilliant Bronze Metallic.
2 LED Headlights with High Beam Assist and Steering Responsive are now standard on ALL trims.
Adaptive Cruise Control is now advanced with Lane Centering Assist instead of Lane Keep Assist of the 19 and 20 models.
All models now have new Self Registering TPMS sensors, which means no need to go to the dealer to have them serviced when tires are replaced.
Touring models now have an Option Package 33 which replaces the Java Brown Leather with Slate Black Leather with silver stitching. So you have a second interior color choice on the Touring.
All seats in the vehicle (including for the first time second and third row) have seat belt reminders which will chime and visually alert the driver to any unbelted passengers.

Pricing changes have not been announced nor has a release date.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
So are they eliminating the brown leather completely in the Touring? You mentioned ‘replace’ but said now will have second choice. Curious because trying to decide on ‘20 or wait for the ‘21. I’d really be curious if the door and dash are still gonna have the ivory on all trims. Not a fan if that.

No. They are adding an option (23) for a black interior as an alternative. I seriously doubt there will be any change to interior trim.

Would love to have a Touring, but 2nd row non flat folding buckets are a horrible design flaw! With 3 kids, no one wants “in the back of the bus” and there is no physical containment for my dog as she could fall between the seat and be injured.
please make the Touring in the 8 set-up!!!!

I'm sure it will be posted when one of the insiders actually gets that information. They literally are just getting the factory restarted after almost two months of shutdown. I'm sure they need some time to figure out how they want to transition from MY20 to MY21 given the supply disruption due to the pandemic and other factors.

I am seeing 2nd row seatback protectors for both captains chairs and bench seat listed as accessories for the 2021 Ascent. Any idea if these will work for previous year models? Has Subaru changed the 2nd row seat design for 2021?

I seriously doubt there is any change to the seats...especially in only the third model year of production. Those second row seat back protectors have been something many folks asked for, too.

If you click on that link, and tell the website you have a 2020 Ascent, it'll show a red bar across the top and say that it couldn't confirm fitment, but then the text below under the title of the part says, "This Fits Your 2020 Ascent".

Come on 2021 - I'm waiting to buy one. I've been checking media.subaru.com daily but no additional info yet.
It's not likely you will hear anything for a bit...they are just reopening production after being shut down for almost two months and there's likely a whole lot of stuff to figure out around timing, etc. Don't expect any major changes, anyway...MY21 only the third model year and any "refresh" isn't likely to happen until MY22.
