Hey all, as many of you know, I've been in contact with the developers of ActiveOBD. You've all gotten your iPhone app (with neat new graphics, no less), and now they're considering going back to the Android App to do some more updates.

PLEASE HELP!!!
They are trying to gauge interest for the Android app.

@smart_alec thanks! Also, there's an iPhone version now too... needs a WiFi OBD2 adapter, but works well I've heard.

If I can use with my old OBDLink LX and deactivated Android Phone, I will test it out on my Forester (or OB)

@pilot1226 should work fine. That's a fully supported setup. I've been thinking of permanently mounting one of my older Android devices for that (and maybe even maps, since I have the hotspot).

Shouldn't need to be. Worked in Incognito Mode for me. The iPhone may be looking for the Twitter app, or you may have it installed and never ran. If that's the case, you can see it on desktop, and copy/paste the link to share.

Thank you for reaching out I am happy to help.

MX+ will read and clear generic diagnostic trouble codes and read generic live parameters for all 1996 and newer cars and light trucks sold in the United States, including Subaru vehicles

Unfortunately, the included OBDLink app does not support reading enhanced diagnostics such as transmission temperature for Subaru vehicles at this time. :(

However, thanks to MX+'s open architecture, it is compatible with many third-party apps and software!
Users have reported success with Subaru specific apps such as “BtSsm” and “ActiveOBD for Subaru” in order to view enhanced diagnostics for their vehicles.

I would suggest contacting the app developers to confirm support for your specific model and year :)


from activeobd: ActiveOBD for Subaru - Apps on Google Play reviews indicate it is very temperamental, so I really do not know what to make of it.

Please for the love of GAWD make this today! I will pay serious money. Can it do boost pressure, manifold and exhaust temps too? I tow with my Ascent and all this telemetry would be fantastic.

It definitely does exhaust/cat temps, knock, engine oil temps, errors/faults, etc. And data logging for later review. The other data points are on other screens, which are an easy swipe left/right to get to.

So, @Baldman64 if you haven't already, please go to the OP and click the Twitter link and let him know you're interested in continued Android development. ;)

I use the Scangauge MX. The MX+ should have the same capabilities as the MX. Which one do you have and what app are you using them with? Torque is pretty forgiving, and you can turn down speed and enable ELM327 mode. ActiveOBD requires certain adapters.

Cheap OBD2 is barely "compatible". I tossed mine. I used it, with occasional issues, with my 2010 Outback. With my Ascent, it was a pain to get it to work (slow down communication in Torque, limit command set, and select ELM327 compatible), but, even then, it would regularly flake out and lose connection to the car, or stop sending data. I bought it to replace my original ScanTool that I broke.

I downloaded the app from his twitter feed and it has the old look. Has he released the new look for Android as yet?
I had an old Carista OBD dongle I plugged in and it showed, Water Temp, Oil Temp, CVT ratio, but center drive line % never showed any info. Second page, it showed AT oil temp, Inlet air Temp, No intake manifold temp, Cat temp. Third screen, showed Fuel level percent, No fuel consumption reading, No IGn advance multiplier, No Learning knock Correction, No ignition learned timing, but did show Ignition Total timing.
This dongle is about 8 years old and I'm sure newer ones will capture more info for the App to display. Will order a new dongle as soon as things get settled out which one does the best job.

Not yet.

Everyone needs to make sure they post that they want it on the Twitter link in my OP (also below) so he knows there's interest, because they're considering dead-ending the Android app, due to how quiet we all are.

The MX+ should have the same capabilities as the MX.
I think you meant OBDLink, not Scangauge (they don't have a product called the MX that I'm aware of).

As of testing tonight, the OBDLink MX+ did not allow me to see the AT/CVT temp or torque vectoring in ActiveOBD in my 2021 Premium. Other sensors were updating.
