So last week I was being chauffeured by my spouse in her brand-new (2300 miles) Pearl White Ascent Touring...6 lane divided highway...she was in the left lane as usual. I noticed something fly into the air in front of the vehicle in front of us, oh crap that's an aerosol paint can! Hit the pavement in between us and the car in front of us, exploded, and we drove directly through a fluorescent pink cloud of paint.

Resisted the urge to engage the wipers, we were running 70+ and I thought it would smear and reduce visibility even more.

She took pictures on her phone and she's in Florida now so I can't share...but picture every front facing surface, mirrors, front of the roof rack, etc. with bright pink polka dots, and a very attractive? pink hue over the whole car.

Dropped it at the body shop this morning, they think they can get it removed with careful rubbing and minimal buffing....

Thank you State Farm!

She's still pissed...At least it was not a gallon can!

Later,

k

Damn, that's super crappy timing for sure. At least the can itself didn't hit the windshield or it could've been even worse/ seriously dangerous even. But wow, that's totally messed up big time.

I'm not sure what the right move after something like this is, but I would think I would want to find a touchless car wash as fast as possible.
Happened on the way to a three hour medical appt., ran it thru the car wash (touchless) the next morning after consulting my body man. I just marvel at the timing...5 seconds either way would not have lined up like that! k

Wow, that should be a Farmers insurance commercial!
My Sister managed to be directly behind someone who lost a spray can of blue which burst open. It coated the front of her brand new Porsche Panamera. She was able to get it cleaned off with minimal trouble.

This is your opportunity to have a very unique Ascent.

I think the color name "fluorescent pink cloud" is classic and modern at the same time.

Find the rattle can and finish the job!

Next year it will be a color choice from Subaru.

They make an orange car you know...
Love your sense of language 8gv. I could hear that as a color name! (hear it not see it ;)) We will have a tough time convincing Robin. Later, k

Wow. Not near as awful, but a car in front of us kicked up a large mudflap that hit us square in the gril, scuffed up the whole front end of our CPO Ascent we only had a month. I feel your pain.

Ok so this isn't the Cross Trek forum or a thread about fireworks but...

I took my then new ORANGE Cross Trek to a campground in New Brunswick on my way to Newfoundland.

Just after dark, as I was walking back from a seafood dinner across the street I started hearing fireworks.

I arrived at my tent site just in time to see a roman candle fire off its first fireball and then fall over.

As it continued firing it moved enough to target my car.

The colorful fireballs accumulated in the grass underneath the car and gave it an underside glow that rivaled any car bling I've ever seen!

The operator of the errant incendiary device was drunk as a skunk and his wife gave him an 80 dB verbal beat down in french.

He came over to apologize in broken English as the spousal pep talk continued.

Feeling bad for him, I just shook his hand so his wife could see and said goodnight.

He smiled and said thanks.

Bad move! Pretty sure that it was not water based paint, so it would do nothing but smear any paint not thoroughly dry, and if not dry, it could mess up the car wash so that the next vehicle might show a little pink also.

Back in 1978, headed west on the upper deck of the left lane of the George Washington Bridge, a bucket of silver-lead paint dumped from the east tower onto my nearly new Celica, instantly blacking out the windshield. Quickly rolled down the driver's window and headed to the first exit in Fort Lee. The car was 100% covered including the vinyl targa top. A Port Authority Patrol saw it happen and pulled in behind me blocking traffic that allowed my to exit while completely blinded. He got me to the bridge maintenance garage where they scraped the paint off the windows so I could get to work. The Port Authority paid for the paint to be removed. Believe it or not, a local Simonize shop (weren't called detailers back then) was able to get all the paint off, even from the vinyl top.

Paint happens.

Timing IS everything; I learned this with my '93 Plymouth Acclaim. I was on I-5 when a brand new VW Jetta threw a wheel at 70 mph. It was bounding and bouncing all over every lane, cars doing a ballet to avoid it. I had nowhere to go and ran right over the top of it with the driver side front and rear wheels. It put a gash 18" long in the rocker panel, but, the car was still drivable.

I got it to a repair shop, and they were able to mend everything. The Acclaim / Spirit series were not much for power or anything, but had one really REALLY strong unit body. Everything was made right as rain; I fitted two new tires and wheels, and the car remained in the family another 3 years.
