Hey everyone! I searched these forums before sharing this information and found no mention of the ValvoMax. I'm sharing this product because I have it on my 2019 Crosstrek and 2015 Impreza. After our initial "Maintain The Love" program (first four services w/ oil change) expires on our new 2021 Ascent Touring, I will be installing this little guy.

It makes draining & changing oil sooo easy and tidy. Made by a veteran in Texan.

If you lose or misplace the drain tool, how do you drain the oil? With the petcock design, e.g. Fumoto, all you do is turn the valve. Fumoto comes with a clip to prevent accidental turning and has an optional drain tube to facilitate draining into a 5 quart container or drain pan.

If you lose or misplace the drain tool, then it just becomes a regular sump plug, I guess. Unfortunately, it does not appear that they sell the drain actuator separately, which is a shame.

If you lose or misplace the drain tool, how do you drain the oil? With the petcock design, e.g. Fumoto, all you do is turn the valve. Fumoto comes with a clip to prevent accidental turning and has an optional drain tube to facilitate draining into a 5 quart container or drain pan.

There is no tool. That's the beauty of it. Standard open end wrench when replacing the OEM plug, just to tighten to the same torque specs. After that, the cap that covers the drain system is just a hand tight (no tool) cap. The cap keeps the valve clean and acts as a "just in case" leak prevention. After uncapping the valve (female), you insert the corresponding threaded male (with drain hose connected) connector. As you twist, the two pieces open the valve and the oil starts to drain. Voila! You can control the drain rate with the amount of clockwise rotation. It's really simple to use. Scotty explains the whole thing in the video. He also addresses the petcock designs.
My main reason for buying this is because I live 1.5 hours from a Subi dealership. Obviously, I'm gonna drive it for the first four complementary services. Next, the speedy oil change places (in my area) charge way too much and are kinda sketchy. I don't have the income to pay them. This system makes it so I can quickly and cleanly drain directly into a container w/o making a mess on my driveway. No aiming for a pan. No oil mess on that belly cover under the engine.
It might not appeal to some, but it's another option and it works best for me.

They do. I found it. I am considering getting it, and since I misplace things ("bury them in my workshop") I want a spare.
$8 for stainless knob, $5 for plastic.

Sorry for misunderstanding what y'all were calling a tool. As for loosing the companion part, I never thought about it the way y'all are. I keep the drain assembly in a 1 qt freezer bag in the spare tire area so I'll always know where it is.

It comes with one aluminum crush washer.

I like this option better than the Fumoto valve because I'm one for whom the Fumoto does not fit without adapters (the exhaust heat shield is in the way). A swivel valve model is supposed to work, but I prefer the standard straight-down drain path, like the standard Fumoto offers and like this ValvoMax deal offers. I have a couple of free oil changes coming from the dealer, but I'll consider this option for after that.
