Love the 2020 touring but have some concerns about the Java color leather seats holding up with kids. I am switching from a sedan/car with light gray leather seats which has been pretty forgiving when wiping off all sorts of icky kid messes. Anyone have input on how forgiving these java brown leather seats have been? Thanks so much!

I cannot even imagine why there would be any disadvantage to the Java colored leather....automobile leather is sealed which is why you really cannot use leather conditioners made for saddlery, shoes and belts on it. No worries relative to your specific question.

Our kids are one reason we liked the Java Brown in Touring. My wife was originally not sold on the color, but she's grown to like it now. A very light color will often show marks or stains where a darker/neutral color will not. Not that these seats will 'stain' anyway due to the sealers Jim noted above. I would have no worries about it with the kids.

The leather ( and supporting vinyl) is arguably more durable than soft and buttery. We have survived dogs on the second row seats(no scratches from claws) , smashed and melted (and subsequently frozen) jellybeans, and gum mashed into the second row seats, and with warm water & mild soap, it all come out perfectly, much to my amazement. The only issue is making sure you get the perforations in the touring leather clean, which in my case both times was very easy to do.

We didn't buy any of the interior protection options, so it was up to me to clean things out and everything has come out just fine. Certainly much easier than if we had a cloth interior.

Lastly, the seats on the Touring, both the first and second row, tend to be firmer than the ones in the other models ( I'm guessing due to the ventilated feature), so spend some time in them to make sure everybody's comfortable.

This is why we buy non-cloth cars exclusively, and have for years. I don't care if it's real leather, fake leather, Star Tex, MB Tex (or whatever Mercedes calls their vinyl), old school vinyl, etc. I want a non-cloth material. Cleanup is a breeze and cloth sticks to and pulls at my clothes the way no other material does (which I really dislike). Subaru advertises its new Star Tex "vinyl" seats in the Outback Onyx. I haven't sat in them or seen them but, if they're like leather in terms of being "slippery" and without other properties of cloth, I'd be a-okay with that.

33k km on ours and it is holding up really well against the dog and the 6YO kid.
I usually wipe them once a month (the seats, not the dog and kid) and it’s looking like new. Just a few creases but completely normal for anything leather
