Time for New Tires

2871 Views 48 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Discount Tire
Hi All,

Just beginning the search - have a few thousand miles left. At 34K, now.

245/50/20

I usually buy Michelin when they are on sale ... for SUV usually Defender/LTX ... we're in Florida so no snow, unless traveling in winter. These have been good for rain.

Also, looking at minimal price differences between Subaru dealer and local Discount Tire - advantages to both, but usually go with Discount since they are in so many locations.

Thoughts?

@AscentForumUser Michelin's are a solid brand used by many forum members. Discount Tire always honors a Low Price Promise so if the dealer has a better price, we would adjust accordingly. Thank you for your consideration. We would love to get you taken care of.

^^^^^ditto^^^^^ I have 12K miles on my CC2s and love them. I don't get a lot of snow/ice, but I'm glad to have them when needed. I find them to be a good all around tire, great in heavy rain, and fine for hot summer driving. Very little road noise and the handling, ride, and grip are excellent. I'm hoping they meet the rated 60K wear rating, no discernible wear so far.

Discount Tire matched Costco's price, and as mentioned they have stores in most states if repairs, etc are needed. (y)

I replaced the falken with conti LX25. I like the conti so far! I already put 18k on these tires.
I replaced the OEM rubber as soon as they needed a rotation lol.
I haven’t run all season tires in years.
I run Nokian WRG4 on both my Subarus.
Purchased from my local @Discount Tire

From Consumer Reporters. I have used their recommendation and so far so good. They have done some form of objective testing.

@Packard8 thank you for your support. @Jimi1976 we appreciate your business!
Will you have a discount for Michelin soon? I am planning to purchase CC2 from Discount Tire but it seems no promo at this moment. I am hoping to get them replaced in April.
@exploit021 although we may not have any currently, we always honor a Low Price Promise, so if you are in the market to purchase soon, rest assured you will not pay more than anywhere else. You are welcome to check into our promotions thread on the forum to see what's current. D.M. us when your ready to move forward on your purchase.

I put a set of Goodyear Assurance Maxlifes on around 32k mi as the OEM Falkens didn't look great at that point and it was heading into fall/winter. I've been very happy with them and they are wearing great! I'm just shy of 80k mi on my car now and the tires still have a healthy amount of tread. They do great in the rain and when I've been in the snow they've done fantastic!

@AscentForumUser currently there is an instant savings promotion for $110.00 on Michelin product. Now would be a good time to take advantage of free money.

Hi DT,

So, here are the Michelin options from the DT site ... which ones "do we like" for the Ascent?

Real world difference between D2 and LTX?

I'm in Florida so no snow, just rain.

The Defender 2 and the Defender LTX are very different tires. The former is a newer entity that more SUV focused. I'm less familiar with it. The latter is a light truck tire...and extremely durable. It wears "forever", but being a little harder/stiffer, might not be quite as comfortable to some drivers. I'd have them on my Ascent if they had been available in 245/50R20 at the time I needed tires. CC2 is a different animal altogether, being a directional tire with extremely good wet and winter performance...it's become a big favorite for the Ascent and many other midsize SUVs. It's wet performance is great for folks in the South.

^^^^Ditto^^^^ to Jim's thoughts above. I had the Defender LTX on my last truck (Ram/Cummins 4x4) and they wore very well and had good wet traction. Being LT tires, they have a tougher body than passenger car tires. This is a plus if you go offroad, or drive on poorly maintained roads. I have no experience with the Defender 2, but I expect they will have a softer ride. I have CC2s and am quite pleased with them, as we have snow and ice storms where I live. They would be a good choice if you envision traveling to other climates. I believe the Pilot series are more for high performance cars, and probably won't wear as well as the other choices.

Jim in PA,

Looks like 245/50/20 not available in LTX ... but, 255/50/20 are available ... thoughts in bumping up a size in width? read on anyone doing this on stock (2021) Limited 20" wheels?
I have 9k miles on my CC2s and love them. We drove from WI to AZ and back…..you can experience all kinds of roads conditions. I haven’t driven in much snow but they are great on wet roads and rain. I am very happy with the handling and ride. Very Happy.

Check further...my understanding is that they finally released it in 245/50R20 a few months ago. There's no issue with bumping up a size other than you also need to replace your spare with one of the same diameter and your speedo/odo will be slightly off.

Will check, again - may be issue with my location since they asked for zip.
Website would not allow me to specify LTX for 21 Ascent Limited 245/50/20 tires.

It also does not show LTX in the automatic selection process.

Zip code 32526 - three DT stores within 30 miles.

What happened to our DT rep?
