Hello all. I am in need of a new vehicle and interested in the Ascent. I test drove a Touring trim this weekend and liked it quite a bit. But one thing stood out as odd. The height of the tailgate opening seemed unusually short for a 3-row SUV and the interior height the storage area seemed low as well. They measured 30" and 30.5" respectively. I measured it quickly and now think I may have measured it wrong as that's 6" shorter than the height of the opening on my mother's Mazda CX-5 (a small SUV).

I have never owned an SUV, so I was just wondering if any owners have noted the same thing or have had any problems loading taller items? Perhaps that's the sacrifice for higher ground clearance?

There's a thread with photos that include all of the rear measurements as well. I believe the height is about @36"

I want to confirm that height. I may have gotten a few extra inches in that measurement guesstimate because of the angle of the hatch. I will re-measure it today, going perpendicularly up from the cargo area floor.

The other measurements are correct since they don't have the issue of an angled opening affecting how I measured.

Thanks. Searching the forum I found two posts that seem to agree on 30.5-31". I'll be interested to see your measurement.

Measured...

• It's exactly 31" to the cargo mat. A little more than an eighth of an inch more with no mat.
• It's 30" from the left or right side to the mat (measured from the seam in the top trim piece).
• It's 34' from the top trim piece to the bottom plastic trim piece (measured at the angle of the opening).

The first two are likely the important ones for most people.
