Great new from TorqueNews!

Subaru wants to make the new Ascent the safest new SUV in the world. Which is great for future owners, especially those with families. They've opened up a new testing facility in Hokkaido, where advanced driver assist tech will be tested on a course similar to public roads.

“The new test tracks will be used to further accelerate the technological development needed for driver assist technologies as they become increasingly advanced.” By the time 2020 rolls around, an automated lane-changing should come standard.

Not exactly "new" technology, but sure hope the Ascent's seat position memory includes the mirrors. Also would be good if it locked doors when driving off based on user selectable options. And being able to open the door(s) from the inside by just pulling the handle instead of having to first flip the unlock switch. Others have had these for decades, but not Subaru for some reason?? Headlight wipers would be nice, too.

Some of these options should come standard, or at least it would be nice if they came standard. Things like the locked doors option when driving is so old it seems like a no brainer to me. but that won't make them the most money.

The reason I mentioned them, is that they are missing on other Subaru's, incl high end trims (like Limited). Hope the Ascent catches up in this regard to most other brands.

f it's missing on other Subaru's then they probably won't be inclined to add those on as standard because they can force you to purchase extra packages. Not a fan of these business models, but the Ascent is a nice vehicle.

I see on subaru.com that the ascent has front, side and side curtain airbags. Does anyone know if they also have driver knee or front seat airbags? they added one form of these to the most of their recent models. Just curious if either carried over to the Ascent.

But of course! From their press release:

Subaru Advanced Frontal Airbags, a driver's knee airbag, standard front side pelvis/torso airbags and side curtain airbags that offer front and rear outboard seat coverage.
