After my rotors were turned and the original pads reinstalled, I had it happen a few times on moderate length trips (a thousand miles with mountains).

I finally got new pads, on the same rotors and just did 3,400 silent vibration free miles.

The front pads are not the same part number as the original.

Wife is at the dealer right now asking about our brakes. Rotors and pads were replaced at 10k miles and they're vibrating again at 22k.... UGH.... just had to put new tires on it too cause the driver's side, inside 2 inches were SO worn the steel belts were showing! Anyone have any updates or more stories of warped rotors?

Pads glaze the rotors making them seem to be warped. The front pads have been redesigned to prevent that. I helped my dealership accurately diagnose my vibration issue, which saved them a set of rotors. I'm on my original rotors and the new pads. 6,000 silent and smooth miles on the new pad design so far.

Here's my original rotors at 59,232 miles, which, turns out, weren't warped.

Getting new rotors, regardless, isn't a bad thing. It's either that or "resurfacing" them to get the pad glazing off.

Thanks as always Robert....we'll see what they come back with this time. It's our third dealership visit in 2 weeks for a number of issues so we're getting a bit impatient at this point. Still absolutely LOVE the Ascent but wondering if we got a bit of dud....

Sadly, a number of people experienced the vibrating brakes, including myself, twice, on the original set. So far, the reports back on the new pad design has been great.

So, hopefully all is well once you get the new set.

Do you happen to know around when the new pads were released? Ours were last replaced 10k or so miles ago but can't remember exactly the date... :)

No, sadly, I missed the parts change date. Sorry.

Depends when the "fix" was done. Many of us have had the problem return. It's pretty bad on ours right now.

About time to fight with the service guys AGAIN to get pads / rotors replaced. Ridiculous issue that needs a recall...

However, the dealer has been getting swamped with this issue on the Ascents and has started to push back pretty hard. What does that tell you?

Service Adviser went on the defense pretty hard last time I brought it up and I didn't have the fight in me that day to push it. It's way worse now after only a few thousand miles since then, so I'll have more to go off of with a test drive.

Thanks! This sounds like I will have an unpleasant conversation on Wednesday! Did you need to contact SoA?

Hi guys! For those who got this issue resolved with new pads and/or rotors - was it covered under warranty? I have same issue on my 2020 with 20k miles. Thanks!
Every time mine we replaced or resurfaced with new revisions, it was fixed, only to come back again. I don't think there is a "fix" for those of us that have this happen repeatedly. Needs a real fix...dont know if that will ever happen though.

The Subaru OEM 3/36 Warranty covers brake pads, so if you are still within your warranty, you have a strong case with the dealer for a replacement if there is an issue with the pads, regardless of which version you are running. Post warranty (and pads are not covered in the extended service contracts) it's a little tougher row to hoe.

Ok I have a 2022 and I am going to the dealer tomorrow because the car is vibrating when braking at highway speed (I don’t know if it is related but it started after my last tires rotation) Wish me luck because I am not planning to spend a dime on the fix. I have 19800 miles on the car. I will keep you updated.

Ok so the dealer was very nice after some interesting conversation. They resurfaced the rotors and send me on my way and most importantly they covered it. Good enough for me. Now I have a record that there is potentially an issue with the rotor and it has been looked at in the first year of having the car.

Not much I can do about it now.
