Wheel Tire Plant Car Vehicle

Sad day for me as my brand New Ascent Touring 2022 just a week old, which was parked in my drive way was hit in the middle of the night. Someone came crashing down the road (probably drunk) through the hedge/ bushes and hit the right rear side badly as the car jumped over the rocks lining the side of the drive way. I found out about it when I woke up in the morning. It was hit and run. I got the police report completed and Insurance Company was informed. The irony is I never had any accidents in all these years and it had to happen to my parked car.
The hatch was not damaged as I was able to open and close it using the hatch button.

Damage was basically concentrated in the rear right side where the car was hit, needing repair of the following:

RT Lower molding w/chrome strip, RT Wheel flare, RT Quarter panel, Rear body panel, RT Extension panel, RT Weather-strip. Speaker assy, RT Tail lamp, RT Lamp, A/M CAPA Bumper cover, Step pad, RT Blind spot radar from, Reverse sensor
Rpr - Unibody Pull

I can understand the damage to body but one concern was the mention of Unibody pull. It was mentioned in the supplement of record summary under miscellaneous operations as S01 Rpr under labor 4.0 F (Frame labor category). Does that mean the unibody was damaged or is a minor adjustment.

Thanks

Ouch! Man, all the safe driving precautions in the world and all the safety features still can't prevent idiots from being idiots. You think parked in your own driveway is as safe as safe can possibly be, but...

Sorry to hear this. The apparent damage seems less than one would expect given how far it was pushed but you won’t know until they strip it all down. It will still be an expensive repair. I hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction…😢

If you don't have a camera, you might check with your neighbors. They might be able to find it and see if they can get a license plate number.

Also, repairs are one of the things that really sucks about unibody vehicles. With body on frame you can feel much more confident that things were straightened out enough to prevent further problems. I hope they can clearly determine the impact. I know it would mean being without a vehicle for a very long time, but if they total it you could order a 2023 which is MAJORLY upgraded.

Its doubtful you'd get a license plate number from a doorbell camera or similar, especially at night. Even if you get a vehicle description and or color at least there could be a bolo on that car. Not guaranteed to help but it can't hurt

One other thought. Look around your neighborhood at the vehicles there. It kind look like there is white paint. Maybe see if there is a vehicle with damage and grey paint. Also looks like the impact goes up your vehicle rather high. That suggests to me you are dealing with something with a tall flat nose like a truck.

Not sure how the estimator is defining unibody but the visible sheet metal damage to the d-pillar is part of the unibody since the quarter panel is an integral welded part. There might be some distortion to the right rear frame rail that requires straightening too. Be sure that the left side of the rear suspension and the rear differential are carefully inspected since they received a lateral impact when the car jumped the curb.

My car was actually hit during the Memorial Day weekend and due to the holidays the whole process was delayed with the police report, contacting the Insurance company and all the headaches in between.
I wanted to get the car repaired through the dealer so that when the car is finally repaired I can make sure everything is done right and if I have any concerns I will not take possession of it till all is done right.
The insurance company was very good in getting the appraiser to check the damage and get the preliminary estimate. The damage parts were then removed and a subsequent visit was scheduled for the appraiser to make a more detailed inspection. I spoke with the body shop owner and he told me the unibody was OK. I am happy with him as he was frank and mentioned to me that if the unibody was damaged he would not do any repairs as it would be a liability and safety issue and he did not want to go anywhere near that and the lawyers.
Then came the ordering parts which caused delays. Today I went to check the car which was partly repaired and saw all the damaged parts which were piled up in a corner and replaced by the available parts on the car. The car was also painted and all parts are properly aligned, straitened and painted. Looks nice.
The only thing which is holding back the delivery of the car is 2 parts one is the right corner Bumper guard and second the radio speaker on the rear right as these parts are not available anywhere. The availability of these parts are expected by July 24. A long month’s wait for me but I have no choice. I will update you all when I get the car back.
I want to thank each and every one of you for your great comments, suggestions and concern for my well being.

So sorry to see that damage. If it was a drunk driver, I think the penalties for driving drunk should be much more severe:
  • License revoked for two years
  • The vehicle used in the incident is to be crushed at the owners expense
  • Restitution paid to the unfortunate other party
That might slow them down a little. Hope you get if fixed quickly.

Be sure to explore Diminution of Value with your and/or the other guy's ins agent if the guilty driver can be found, This will show up as a Major Incident on Carfax, etc.

Sorry this happened, but it looks like it is being repaired properly.
