Redundant displays and useless cargo cover

The displays are redundant between the driver and middle screens. I’d like the option, since it is computerized, to pick each separate piece of information shown, and not preset pre-packaged displays.

The rear cargo cover was included in my car and is now stowed below the trunk deck. It is useless with all 3 rows of seats up, which is how I roll. Why not mold a second indent behind the 3rd row in which to anchor it? Don’t market it as such a plus. The part should actually have a bold print disclaimer that it is only for use if the 3rd row is folded down.

I too find the two screens largely redundant and the lack of more customization reduces the potential usefulness of two screens. However the CID display comes in handy when I turn off the big central touch screen. Even so, to me only time and outside temp will be useful in the CID when the touch screen is off.

The rear cargo cover was forced upon me when I purchased the Tech package. I am keeping it for now thinking it may be useful for road trips when the 3rd row will be down. May be a piece of old sheet can work just as well? Love to hear your thoughts. In the local used markets, cargo cover and the carpet floor mats are very popular so I am not in hurry to sell it as the "profits" are expected to be low. The space behind the 3rd row is so dark already making a cover unnecessary.

Folks should keep it, even if in storage, for the time when they trade in the vehicle...dealers will ask about it and will ding if it's missing but originally included with the vehicle. I had that question last week when placing my order for a MY23 as I do not keep the cover in my Ascent and had to assure them it was still around and available. (same for the non-cut hitch cover which I also have stored away)

it its Ascent to Ascent you can take it from new car put it in old one 😁
We appreciate the way Subaru includes storage for the cargo cover when not in use. We only use the 3rd row occasionally, so most of the time the cargo cover is in place. It's actually a clever design the way it expands when installed and shrinks when stowed.

True, but that can certainly be cumbersome when you have to turn in the trade before you get delivery, sometimes an hour or three before the latter gets rolling. I was just suggesting that folks who do have these things might make their lives easier by keeping them safe for future trade-in purposes.
I like the cover and use it. Keeps prying eyes away from the tools that inevitably are back there. But the 3rd row is a 2-3 times a year use item for us.
I'm in the middle ground as far as the cargo cover is concerned. I almost always have the 3rd row folded down but I also almost always have something being hauled back there that stands taller than the cover.
I used my cargo cover on my '02 Forester all the time so I actually purchased the one for the Ascent on my own, but I never seem to ever be able to use it. Instead I keep a moving blanket back there to cover what I'm carrying.

I'm the same way. The only time the third row seat(s) come up is if I need one or both to hold something in place, such as an unstable shopping bag. I never use the cover because it would be in the way for almost everything I haul and I don't really put anything "valuable" back there that needs to be hidden. If I'm not actively hauling something...it's empty. But I do understand how other folks might have other needs. Despite there only being 14" exposed with the third row up, it would be a good design upgrade to accommodate the cover for folks who are more comfortable having it in place.

I had the same thought. I'd email Subaru and add your voice to those who've been suggesting it. We may see it in a future year.

When the salesman demonstrated the cargo cover removal and placement when my 20 was delivered, I asked where it attaches when the third row is up. Very short-sighted omission considering it's just a molded indentation.

The obverse is true as well. I removed every personally installed update when I turned in my 20 for the 23. The next owner is getting OEM carpet mats that were never removed from the factory packaging. I "neglected" to remove all of my LEDs because the 23 was coming with the factory interior LEDs. I didn't realize it wouldn't include the cargo light or the puddle lights. I also didn't remove my Sportwing body side molding because getting all the 3m tape residue off would have been huge.

I also almost always have something being hauled back there that stands taller than the cover.
The couple of times I've used the cover, I've had to strategically locate the tall items so they got "wrapped" by the cover. Ie the cover bulged upward over the items.
Now that the Ascent isn't used as the primary vehicle with all three rows being used, the cargo cover is always in place. Agreed on another indention use it from the third row back. On a positive note for the cover, it is better designed than what we have for our new Pilot in regards to storage and ease of use. Same problem with the new Pilot, the placement of the indention only covers from the second row back. Also, the position for the indention is actually further back so the cover actually has a cover that pulls forward to the 2nd row headrest (three separate ones). The cargo covers doesn't collapse in at the ends so it's a pain to get it in and out. Once it's out there is no dedicated storage for it. When we are using the 3rd row the cover stays home.

Hm.. i don't see anything Redundant about display ... or have any problems with cargo cover
Thank you subaru for giving me options ... especially the one i am not forced to use...

For example, both can display time/outside temp, music/radio being played, and name of street. However, I like to turn the touchscreen off completely for daily drive, in which case I use the CID to display Time/Temp, which to me are the most used info for driving around town.

Things were a bit less redundant in the pre-2023s with the upper display. I know that having certain things available on the touch screen and the center display provides options but I really don't need time and temperature everywhere I look. Scrolling less on the center display would be fine for me. There are only 3 pieces of information I use on there - average mpg, instant mpg and tire pressure. I really don't need the radio station, or street name or compass direction.

Redundant -> not or no longer needed or useful
redundant would be if both display same thing with no option to select something else

if you choosing to set it to show same thing , it's not redundant it's your choice
