I noticed today, on day 3 of owning my Ascent, that the rear wheels pooled water on the ground as if the AC drain was in the rear. I looked into the wheel wells and it looks like the rear wheel well covers are not made of the same plastic material as the fronts. Why is this? What is this material? It looks like fibreglass, though I know it isn’t. Why does it absorb and then drip water? Is there a proper plastic replacement, and if so, where can I buy it?

The carpet-like rear lining is usually used for sound attenuation. Road noise and things like stone dings are amplified in the back of an SUV or van (big box), so this type of material is increasingly used to try to mitigate some of that.
