Hi Gang,
So I wanted to ask if anyone has Plastidip colored their wheels or perhaps thought about it? I was thinking like a bronze color. What do you guy think for a $50 mod for fun?

I previously had dipped my wheels copper on another car. Good results but doing 2 types of colors and blending was tough. Definitely stood out!

If done for fun it’s a cheap way to stand out for sure. I’d never do it based on how flimsy plastidip is. Touch that stuff the wrong way and it peels off!
I’ve seen at least one or two Ascents on here that have bronze colored wheels. They look good imho!

When done right (which can be time consuming) I think it looks pretty good!

A lot of people use this method during the winter/snowy months as a measure to prevent road salts from damaging the wheel finish. As xydadx3 noted, it peels off.

Awesome work! Yeah bronze looks cool. Copper is too loud and the gray would just drown out with the rest of the car. How do you like them so far? Oh I got the same Yakima on top haha. Did you black out the grill with plastids or something else?
If you are referring to the last pic, it is actually gold. I really like the gold and will probably do my Impreza wheels that color for fun. The window trim was done with vinyl and if I had to do it again I would dip that trim. The rest of the chrome in the door handles, grille, fog lights, tailgate were all dipped black. When I had the front bumper off to put the hella horns in, I dipped at that time.

Thanks. so dipping chrome wasn’t a problem? Asking because I’ve heard others having hard time with it. I haven’t tried it myself.
id like to see the hella horns. Got pic or link?
I want to put a light bar but not sure I can find a mount to extend from the other side of the bottom scoop thru to the front. I’m trying to avoid drilling the bumper and something more solid.

heres the color I’d like to do on the wheels. Not the wheel itself.

Dipping is pretty easy. If the pieces are on the car, just be sure to mask for overspray, and by a lot. The spray does travel far and takes more time to remove Vs the area of intent. You dont have to be precise with the masking so long as you have a good edge to "cut" against. The excess will just peel or rub away. Just take your time. It will take the whole afternoon but most of that is simply dry time between coats.

Here is the hella horn thread: Someday next week, it will be Hella fun
