Passanger Seatbelt

Every time my wife rides in our Ascent, she complains about the passenger seatbelt buckle digging into her hip. Granted she is wide hipped, and VERY pregnant. However, last night I let her drive and she immediately commented on how much more comfortable the drivers side seat belt is. And after sitting on the passenger side, I now see what she means. The buckle is very stiff and curves in toward the seat.

Anyone else noticed? I have no idea how to correct it. It really bothers me that she is uncomfortable. Not to mention we are taking a 6 hour drive tomorrow from Denver to Deadwood, SD.

I know that this is an old post but wondering if you have found a fix. I do not have super wide hips and i am having this issue. I am trying to buy an ascent but need to know if i can fix this before i do so as it actually hurts and i am worried that if anything happened that clip would really do some damage , meanwhile its painful. I have called subaru and they take note of it but that does not help me find a solution
I have the same problem and the service department says it's a factory/design issue. They can't fix it. We bought this car for road trips and if my husband is driving, I have to sit in the back seat. I guess I have a chauffeur now? You'd think their amazing engineers would have thought of this and tested it out before they put a belt buckle in the front seat that can only be used by skinny people.
I'm a large guy (240 pounds), and I don't find the buckle uncomfortable if I'm riding while my wife drives. She doesn't have any discomfort when she rides, either (though she is smaller).

I did notice that you can angle the buckle towards the center console for more room. It won't stay there, but you could insert something between the buckle and the seat frame (such as a small piece of wood) to hold the buckle outward.
I've had no complaints from either my daughter (300 lbs) or my spouse, (a lot less but much more than 140 lbs) relative to the seat belts in the front seat of my Touring.
Yeah. The buckles are symmetric between driver and passenger on my Premium. They appear to be attached with a metal tang. If that tang is bent, it could affect the position of the buckles.

Yes. I noticed it the third time I rode in the car as a passenger. I am not wide-hipped. It is painful. I do not have the pain when I drive. I am very unhappy about this.
