Just received an e-mail that a new update was available. I'm unable to log in to get the new version number - guess everyone else is trying at the same time.

Ages ago, an exploit for Harman Kardon was found and announced - and since fixed... so, this time, I can no longer peek inside of their update file to get info on what's in it.

What I do know is it updates the whole system, and is labeled as for all HK Subaru Gen 3.1 Navigation systems (that much I gleaned from the unencrypted files) - I would NOT count on it working for other car models until Subaru and HK have announced it for them and confirmed compatibility - some people have bricked their head units trying that.

I give up on trying to update the maps. The process is so time intensive and fails too often

It can sometimes be worth it. When I drove my car off of the lot last month, they didn't put the then latest update from December 2019 on it and my Android Auto crashed frequently and looked a lot different as well. I decided to upgrade to the December release and it corrected most of my bad experience with android auto crashes and it's been great ever since, so it was worth it to me.

This update released today didn't take near as long to complete (something like sub 30 minutes?) and i haven't experienced anything drastically different thus far

You may be able to get the dealership to do it for you the next time you are in for Service.

2 updates for me in a month of ownership (since my Ascent built in June '20 included the Dec '19 update- that should never happen). 2nd update went without negative fanfare. Now I need to do our '18 Legacy which also updated yesterday.

I downloaded it last night for my 2020 Limited. I'll try it later this morning. Had no problems installing the last couple of updates.

Update on the update! Just installed seamlessly. Took just under 30 mins. So far only noticed new graphics in Sirius XM. Can folks please share any changes they notice?

Is the update for 2020 only or is there an update for 2019 Ascents also?

Thanks!

It you have Navigation, you will see it available for the 2019's as well.

Thanks. This will help my discussion with the dealership that doesn't think this is a problem. I brought this to their attention in May and dropped it since I hadn't heard of any new updates since around December. I just called again and they still don't believe me but said they would do more research. Subaru of America said that I need to work it out with the dealer.

Yes, sadly, the dealer has to transition the information from their inventory into that system. The head unit and related functions get registered to you, and the car, which is of course pretty important considering all it interacts with. Hoping they get it fixed.

In the meantime, if you aren't having problems, there's nothing to worry about/rush. So far, none of us have found anything of note or even different (other than some graphics tweaks maybe). And if you do feel you need it, perhaps you can get your dealer to do it, since they haven't completed the portal config process.

I created the USB 3.1 key with the windows downloader. It took about 40 minutes to download and copy to the key. Total about 13gb. The update went smoothly and finished before arriving at our destination on a 20 minute ride. Haven't run navigation on the last update or this one so no comment on what's changed.

Downloaded via app, installed on USB stick, zero issues. Installed in head umit, about 30 min, zero issues. Changes I've noticed...zero. ;-)

Exactly the same thing here. Installation on USB thumb drive, update the car unit and use it later on completely uneventful. Nothing changed to the point that if I haven’t done the update myself, I wouldn’t believe it was actually done.

Just updated the maps and STARLINK over my WiFi. Worked great after I figured out the nuances. 2020 Touring.

Oddly enough, ran the update and it was much smoother than last time. Maybe they addressed some of the issues in the last update.

What is the navi database version supposed to be? Mine has a 2017 flavor.
