My whining stops here

Through a completely and totally random turn of events I have a spectacular, gorgeous and hopefully perfect magnetite gray touring Ascent in my garage right now. So super crazy that it appeared out of the clear blue sky at a dealership that didn’t have it posted on their website as we were driving by on a test drive in a Honda Pilot. We didn’t even realize it was a touring model until we walked up onto the lot afterward looking to at least give a premium or limited model a spin to compare with the sluggish, lackluster and more expensive 2018 Pilot. When we realized it was a Touring with most of the add ones we ordered back in April but in gray I nearly lost my mind. We hadn’t even gotten to see a Touring in person and there she was. Even weirder, my husband had an appointment to meet a guy that had an interest in his FJ so we had to leave for that. The man had no idea what an FJ was, much less a Trail Teams version (they only made 2500 of his- it’s kind of a big deal) but decided he liked it and he will buy it so they are supposedly meeting at the bank tomorrow morning. Fast forward, husband comes home, we go back to the dealership and boom. Done. Home sweet home on the date our order was supposed to arrive (but has been pushed back to 8/17) and before our road trip. Seriously crazy turn of events. Hoping everyone else that has been waiting forever gets what they need soon and THANK YOU for educating this Subie newbie. Promise to add my pics in the magnetite gray thread tomorrow. Eeeekkkkk! :smile_big:

Congrats....
,people , start searching dealer inventories now to get your car, the car you want NOW.....! Does Subaru really think people will sit quietly by while walk up , impulse customers start driving away in the Ascents that we ordered months ago! Maybe a slew of cancellations will get their attention....We matter....

Congrats! Similar happened to me... they told me ETA end of July, and then got a call on June 30 to come pick it up on July 2! I have magnetite gray also... but premier trim. Still, high five to fellow magnetite gray owner!

Whoa! Congrats. Roseville, huh? I think I may have scrolled past your husband's FJ if he listed in on Craigslist. :)

There was an Ascent Touring at our dealer that we were able to test drive. It was a customer's order. As the story goes, they ordered the car with a $500 refundable deposit. Between the order and delivery, they purchased a home and now could not get the financing for the Ascent. The dealer gave them their deposit back and the car went on the lot. I was the first client to test drive an Ascent at our dealer. This was almost 4 weeks ago as it was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Oddly enough, I believe it is still on their lot. Our dealership is trying to hold at MSRP on all Ascents and I don't think the consumers in our area a big on paying MSRP on a vehicle.

WOOOOHOOOOO! Is that the color you had originally ordered? Also curious how much that FJ goes for if you don't mind pming - since I'm going to try and offload my truck soon.

And there she goes, calimomofboys, calidadofboys(?), and their boys, driving in their new Ascent off into the sunset (or at least until they reach the Pacific), perhaps we'll never see her on the site again...

But seriously give us a review when you get a chance. :)

It is such a dream. Literally. Couldn’t go to bed until 1a and then wakened at 5a and had to go sit in it in the garage to prove to myself that it was there! We ordered the blue but would have been happy with either magnetite gray or crystal pearl white. Now that I have seen the Touring interior in person I feel like the magnetite gray was the best choice for us. *not biased at all* Funny, I’ve had a pretty good relationship with the sales manager who ordered for me in the first place but when I sent my very sweet “Thank you so much for your help. Let me know if you want me to help you find a buyer for the blue one coming? Please refund our deposit.” text this morning he didn’t reply. I do feel awful for him as I am sure this is happening more and more with the delay but I also know they will sell them with ease when they do arrive. Tomorrow she gets the Finishing Touch clear coat on the interior and exterior (I am sure it is pretty crappy compared to ceramic but we garage our cars and it’s California- for just $500 it felt like a good deal for the interior if nothing else before we hit the road). Still need to figure out this StarLink and get the windows tinted but in the meantime the ventilated seats make me want to live. It’s 103 here today and forecast to be 105 tomorrow. We open that shade on the pano without a second thought and just bump all of the delightfully cool air. Getting to know you, getting to know allllll about you....

Smart buyers are. Dealers are seeing customers bail on MSRP agreements every day now, and they don't want these just sitting on their lots tying up their cash. They'll soon learn customers realize supply exceeds demand and no fool is gonna pay MSRP.

To wit:

I have two on the ground. One was our actual stock unit that showed up (black, premium, 8 passenger), the other is a limited (black, 7 passenger) that a customer decided not to get. We've had a couple of other people that due to changes in circumstances had to cancel things, but those have all gone within a couple of days (or less).

For anyone in MA, Auto Fair Subaru (https://www.autofairsubaru.com/new-inventory/index.htm?search=&model=Ascent) has over 20 Ascents in stock on their lot. They have an example of every trim level, color, and most package combinations. It's amazing they have such large stock when most other dealers in the area only have 1 or 2 at best. It really helped me figure out what trim level and options I liked. They seem to discount pretty well but unfortunately they didn't have what I wanted.
Congrats....

Tell me you're kidding. Do you think Subaru cares if you cancel because you bought one off the lot? If you can buy the car you want/ordered off the lot, then do so but Subaru will have no problems selling the car you ordered, if it is already being built. But, as a company, they can't only build all of our preorders and not deliver standard ones to dealers - no company does this (except maybe Tesla who only builds the rich people's orders first). Seriously, if you can buy the same exact car you ordered off a lot, then go for it. No one loses and everyone wins. You MIGHT even get it for a better price.

Seriously. While I was signing my paperwork there were several people opening the doors to my car and looking around. One even asked if he could buy it!

I know it's not technically yours until the paperwork is signed, but I don't know how I'd feel about people checking out my soon to be car

After I had signed my plethora of forms, the concierge and I walked out to my car. Two guys were sitting in it and checking it out. Said I had a sweet ride and they were jealous. It was sitting in a parking space marked SOLD but that didn't deter them from checking it out. At least no one drove it. With 3.8 miles on the odometer and arriving late the night before, I was pretty sure it was only driven just enough to make it to my parking spot. :)
