Got a question. Bought my Ascent Touring in March, my family and i are out of town and we’re going to dinner. It had been raining all day and this was the first time we had gotten into the car. We rode to the restaurant, with it pouring. When we got back to the car the moon roof was all the way open and the inside of the car was flooded, literally. None of us opened the roof...again it was pouring. Has anyone had any issues with the roof malfunctioning like this? My interior is ruined and I’ve only had the car 4 months!!!

That’s crazy! I haven’t seen this come up as a issue anywhere. Is Subaru covering the damage?

Wow! I've only heard of the opposite problem, moonroofs not closing.

If you could send pics of the control panel for it, and the moonroof, that would be great. The moonroof doesn't have any source of power when the car is off. The main relays are literally off, so, it is impossible for the car to open the moon roof in the event of a switch failure (which is the only thing I could think of that would open the moonroof when not wanted). You can find those relays in your engine compartment, in the fuse box on the driver's side.

It also cannot be pried open without it breaking.

Sadly, I suspect that someone left it open. If that is NOT the case, any good dealership would be able to diagnose how power got to the moonroof motor through a relay that should have been "off", through the controller and through the switch. That should be something they can easily find.

So, keep us posted, and would love to see the pics...

Some cars have a feature that opens all the windows and sunroof when the unlock button is held on the fob... we don’t have that in the Ascent as far as I know but I’ve never tried...
