Has anyone successfully downloaded a map update to a thumb drive ? I have been trying for 3 days to download the update but I can't get the transfer to the thumb drive from the PC. 32 GB thumb drive being used. It just stops when I click the drive to load to. Here is the second complaint. My Tom-Tom map stopped working the other day where it only shows the U.S.map. I can't get any closer. So, when I went in to the dealership for my 6,000 mile oil change, they said you need to update the map . And gave me the same instructions to download the update ! So I am back to step one. They are in the process of trying to download the update which is taking them a long time since their internet is slow. So, anybody had success with the download ?

I got it to download with no issues. I used a 16gb thumb drive.

Maybe your thumb drive is write protected?

If you give more information about where it gets stuck, we may be able to help.

Thumb drive is not write protected. I load the map Downloader on my Windows PC. It then downloads the program. Then it asks me to check the drive to send the data to. In my case it is L: thumbdrive. When I check it, nothing happens. No attempt to transfer. The formatted thumbdrive is 32GB.

I was having a problem also. My problem was I was using an "older" thumb drive (which I learned later). From what others have said, if you have 3.0 one, it only takes about 15 minutes to download. (look at the "color" on the inside of the plug, if it's Blue, it's 3.0, I believe black is 2.0 and white is 1.0).

Anyway, my dealership did it for me. I had been working with the Delivery Specialist and he was working with Service Dept. trying to help me do it over the phone. After several e-mails back and forth, I asked if I could just come in.

What's the possibility of trying it from a friends computer? Guess I got further than you did, I was able to download an icon :) Also, are you using Firefox as your browser? Someplace after I had mine updated by the dealership, I read someplace about not using Firefox.

But again, you didn't say if it's a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. They are different standards - and both are available for sale at Best Buy.

For example, I want to save pictures from my Xbox One to USB. I have to use a USB 3.0 standard. A USB 2.0 will NOT work.

USB 2.0. They never said you needed a USB 3.0 only that it needed to be at least 16 GB. The dealer was unable to do it. He is calling the Subaru people when the weather in Indiana is better. Here is something to keep in mind with the update on these maps. I had started updating the maps with the home wi-fi but only half way completed the update therefore this caused the Texas map to not function. When I let the update complete on the home wi-fi, I now have my Tom-Tom map working ! So be careful with the wi-fi update.

I took @Robert.Mauro 's advice:

Pretty sure it's a factor of the speed of the USB device. Took me about 14.5 minutes with a fast and new USB drive.

SanDisk Ultra Fit 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive - SDCZ43-128G-GAM46

I went with the 64 GB model.

The newer 3.1 variant is even cheaper - https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-64GB-Ultra-Flash-Drive/dp/B077VYCV37/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

And yes, it really only took about 15 minutes to upload in the car.

I think it took me nearly as long to download it with the wired network at my university (quoted as 1 to 100 Gbps).

Can you post or send me a pic of it plugged into the center USB port? I was considering getting the newer model, but I like how the old one kinda disappears when it's plugged in.

^ Unfortunately, I don't have that newer one. I ordered mine shortly after reading your OP that I'd referenced above and purchasing the one that you'd recommended (albeit just as a 64 GB), and it was only a couple of days ago when I was showing someone else that I saw the new model.

Sorry! :)

Ok the answer to the download problem is very simple. After I obtained a 3.0 thumb drive, I reloaded the program into the computer. Then when I selected the correct drive and still got the same response. Then I noticed I needed to open the entire screen, and at the bottom was the box to start the download to the drive. So be sure you open the entire screen to get to the button to start the transfer.

Was about to post the same. It threw me for a bit until I saw the button on the screenshot from the instructions. The windows has no scroll bars, so didn't think to try and expand it.

FWIW...I'm using a USB2.0 thumb drive and it downloaded successfully, so either one works.

Ok the problem with the download to the the thumb drive was my error. After I obtained the 3.1 drive, I reloaded the map to the PC. Then id the correct drive, but nothing happened. The I noticed I had not fully opened the page. Once I did this, then at the bottom was the box to click to send the info to the drive. No problems after that.

I just downloaded the firmware and map update for my 2019 Ascent onto my Win10 PC. I plugged in an empty USB drive into my PC and clicked on the "Install On a USB Memory Device" button. The next page shows that the program cannot find the drive. I tried both USB3 and USB2 ports and also formated the drive as both FAT32 and NTFS formats. Exited and restarted the program. Still can't find the drive. So I am at wits end. Anybody out there had this issue and have a fix? Thanks!

I'd send Harman Kardon an email with your specifics to see if they can help. This is the first I've heard of this. Also, you may be able to do an Over The Air (OTA) update, if your car is close enough to your home wifi (has to be really close).

Thanks Robert.Mauro and ratbag! I will try a diff brand USB drive. The one I was trying to load was Sandisk which should have worked. Also may try Lenovo support if solution doesn't show up soon on this forum. I could load the firmware update over my wifi but the map update can only be accomplished via USB.
