Lasfit LED headlight bulbs

Hi,

I have a 2019 Ascent Premium with stock headlight bulbs. I purchased Lasfit LCair9005 and LCairH8/9/11 White LED bulbs for the low and high beams. These are 30W per bulb and have 6000k color temperature, 12-16volts.

Would these work fine as a replacement to the stock bulbs or would they cause electrical issues/malfunctions in other components?

Please advise.

Thanks.

I can't speak to those particular bulbs. However, I have been running LED bulbs in my '19 Premium for several years with no issues*
One thing I chose to do was get a fanless LED for the low beams because they're on so often. Less moving parts means less to fail. If they're designed to use a fan to assist the heatsink and the fan fails the LED will follow. My high beams do have the little cooling fans since they're so bright and put out a lot of heat. I've had them since 2018 though and the fan is still fine.

*Virginia annual state inspections don't like to see aftermarket LED bulbs. I've swapped out all the bulbs back to OE for inspections...but have been lazy and not swapped them back since this past June...

Thanks xydadx3...
The lasfit bulbs do have cooling fans built into it. Do you think:
  • it will be street legal to have aftermarket LED bulbs in Michigan,
  • it will affect the electrical circuit or any adjustments need to be made to accomodate this bulb?
Many aftermarket LED's I've seen are a bulb that fits the general size of the opening for the bulb, the correct plug, and an adapter ring installed for the specific housing: H11, HB3, etc. So, yes it will function just fine; they should basically be plug and play. I would check the beam pattern against a wall or garage door to make sure you're not going to blind anyone for some of the reasons outlined below, just to be safe.

I was about to type something out about the legality but this sums it up well:

AI Overview
Yes, LED headlights are legal if they were installed by the vehicle manufacturer (OEM) or are a DOT/SAE-approved retrofit that meets federal safety standards, but most aftermarket LED replacement bulbs are illegal for on-road use in the U.S. because they don't comply with federal regulations for brightness, beam pattern, or glare, even if sold online. They are legal only for off-road use or in jurisdictions outside the U.S. where regulations differ. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Legal LED Headlights
  • Manufacturer-Installed (OEM) LEDs: If your car came from the factory with LED headlights, they are legal and compliant with safety standards. [3, 4]
  • Approved Retrofit Kits: Only LED retrofit kits specifically approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or labeled Department of Transportation (DOT)/Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) are legal for on-road use. [1, 3, 4]
Illegal Aftermarket LED Headlights
  • No Federal Approval: The NHTSA has never approved a single aftermarket LED bulb for replacement in a standard headlamp, making them illegal for on-road use in the United States. [1, 3, 6]
  • Reasons for Non-Compliance: These bulbs don't meet federal safety standards for: [1, 2, 7]
    • Glare: They can cause dangerous glare for other drivers. [1, 2, 8]
    • Beam Pattern: The beam pattern may not be properly designed for your vehicle's housing. [4, 9]
    • Brightness and Color: The brightness and color temperature may be inconsistent or emit harmful blue light. [4, 10]
  • State and Local Laws: While federal law regulates the bulbs, state and local laws govern their installation. [6]
When to use aftermarket LEDs
  • Off-Road Use: You can legally use aftermarket LED bulbs on private property or vehicles used exclusively off-road. [5]
  • Other Applications: Replacing marker lights, turn signals, or brake lights with LEDs is generally legal. [8]

I installed Beamtech LED high and low beam bulbs on my 2019 Premium from the get go. The cutoff is correct (although I suspect that may be a function of the reflector itself) and the lights are MUCH better than the junk that came with the car. They've lasted 6 years now with zero issues. They were plug and play with no adaptors required. Remove old bulbs and insert new replacements.

I tried some LED bulbs in projector headlamps as the Ascent have and none had the distance of beam that an OE style incandescent had and further the LED were prism like. If one wants brighter headlamps why not get some HID, HID are designed to work with projector headlamps. I haven't so I can not confirm if there is a direct fit or if one has to modify another application HID.
