There was a rumor that the car was designed to be so strong to protect from rollover injuries and other impacts that Subaru had to train rescue personnel on how to extricate people from the car. I think there's some reference to such in this very forum someplace, which I cannot immediately find.

I've heard this anecdotally all the way back to early 2000s. It's the layers of steel.

I was talking with a guy from a rescue company that ironically said Subaru is the only car make that he has never had to cut. (occupant was always able to get out on their own)

I'll have to ask him if he's either heard of the Subaru construction or gone through extra Subaru specific training.
