They are better than the Outback but still show stains. We have a light interior demo model and it has kid foot prints on the seats. We've washed them out a few times, but over time I think it will be more visible on the lighter seats than the darker seats.

Stain resistant does not mean stain proof.
Your dealership will offer something like a Resistal that is supposed to help. I've ended up in the past just doing a deep clean every few months and then applying Scotchgard when I had a car with light colored cloth interior.

Try 2 applications of 303 Fabric Protectant. You spray it on and wipe up any overspray. Let the first application dry then do a second. This greatly reduces liquids from soaking in.

Will need something for when I go camping. I went with the warm Ivory with my Limited but know I will need some protection

So we have a 2010 cream cloth Legacy and a 2010 Cream limited leather OB. The Legacy only hauls grandma who plays Tennis, golf, cycles etc. no kids of dogs and she has water and sweat spots that need addressing every 6months or so. The OB cream
Leather gets wiped down looks new again. If the OB was cloth pretty sure it would have been designated a bio hazard after the first yr and burned. Kids and active family leather or FO leather like stuff is really the only way to go. After having two black leather interior cars and now 4 light cream leather interior cars Ill never own a black interior car ever again.

From what I've read, I'd recommend waiting for custom-made seat covers. It sounds like the side air bags are contained inside the seats, and they need the proper cut in order to allow the side air bags to deploy properly.
I have not found any that are custom-cut for the Ascent yet.

I have Ivory Cloth Seats in crosstrek xv, 2 kids, was concern with stains too , and got spare takeoff covers ... but 4 years later original covers still fine .. I do not let my kids eat in the car.. water only

It appears that Subaru does offer custom seat covers for the second row. I think this is a fairly new accessory.
