When I go to unlock with my hand, after I put my hand in the door handle I get 5 annoying beeps, then unlocks. I thought at first it was me trying to open it too soon but that is not the case. The owners manual is full of disclaimers about this feature. Searched this forum and didn't find much.

The owners manual says 5 beeps when locking means a door or the rear hatch or fuel door is ajar.

I didn’t see anything about this happening during unlocking but there are a LOT of disclaimers so I may have missed it.

Maybe check that all doors are closed tight.

Yeah doors all closed and happens during unlocking. I updated the software last weekend and it seems to be happening pretty much every time. Wonder if that has anything to do with it? Does a software update change anything but the entertainment system?

There's no OTA or USB software updates for the BCM (or TCM or ECU), so, not to worry, it wasn't any update you performed.

Assuming that you are solely touching the inner part of the handle, and not simultaneously touching the three strips on the outside, I'd bring it in to be checked out.

I’m interested in your resolution to this problem. I had something similar happen to me. Had a series of 5 double chirps when the car was disarmed but, FOB and hand sense on driver door would not unlock car. Just get this 5, 2x Chirp thing. Driver side interior door lock control would not lock/unlock other doors. Dealer checked colts on driver door harness, Then the system, “must’ve reset!” I replicated the problem in five minutes after getting the ascent back and it’s been at the dealer waiting for a body control module since then.

Make sure your keys are not in the same pocket as your phone. The phone can block the signal. This probably is not the issue you are having, but just bringing it to light.

As crazy as this sounds, a lot of these little weird issues may be resolved by simply unplugging the battery for a minute. It may save a trip/hassle to the dealer.

The neg terminal was disconnected for at least a minute, not longer than 15 though, before Being brought in to dealer. The Body Control Module responsible for doors, locks fob recognition, gas lid, rear gate and who knows what else was deemed responsible for these events. Working with SOA and dealer customer relations team on a resolution presently.

Any update on if replacing the Body Control Module fixed your issue? My Ascent is now having the same issue, local dealer said a software update would fix it and it still is happening.

The dealer had pin pointed the BCM to be the culprit and between identifying and ordering the part, then switching it out I had a Starlink warning that weekend. It alerted me that I had an airbag malfunction. I didn’t like it and planned to call the dealer to see what they were doing with my ascent on a Saturday!?!? Monday comes along and the dealer call to see if I’m OK. They never fixed the issue and I’m in 2020 Ascent #2.

Well after the software update two weeks ago I'm still having the same issue of driver door not unlocking. Dealership is ordering and replacing the BCM as well. Hopefully it'll fix it.

Well, watch for Starlink updates during the time when they are working on the BCM. The service department here was fond of the term “electrical gremlins” before and after the BCM diagnoses. Those little buggers led me to the Asecent #2.

I'm having the same problem! It initially seemed to happen when the driver side had been sitting in the sun. But, after 2 months, it has progressed to the point that the 5 chirps now happen almost every time I touch the handle to unlock the car. Sometimes, after the 5 chirps, pulling the handle will half-way release the door latch. Other times, pulling the handle does nothing. When either of these cases happen, the only way I can open the door is either to use the key, or if there is someone on the passenger side, they can pull the interior driver's door handle and the door will open.

I took the car to the dealer a couple of weeks ago and of course the door worked perfectly that day. It has gotten worse, so I'm hoping when the car goes in next week, they will be able to reproduce the problem.

It will be interesting to hear if a BCM replacement fixes the issue. Or, if it is an issue with the handle/latch mechanism itself.

BCM did not work. Dealer called said they replaced it and got the keys resynced with it. I went in first thing in morning they gave me the keys and I walk out and it doesn't open. Just the usual 5 chirps, no unlocking. Walk right back in and tell them it isn't working. They have a tech come out to "confirm" and it is in fact not working. They take it back to the shop and they give me back the loaner. Two days later they're now focusing on the driver door and they replace one part (can't remember the part name I'll have to call tomorrow if you want to know) first and say it's been working since replacing that. The tech has been going out to it every hour to test and it's worked each time. So I picked it up last Saturday morning and I'm finally happy to report that it has been working fine since then. Fingers crossed it's gone for good, cause I don't miss the days on just standing next my due hoping I'll get in eventually.

That is great news! I would be really interested to know what part your dealer replaced so I can relay that info to my dealer when I take my car in next week for the same issue.
