All GPS systems determine their position by receiving time signals from satellites, so you need to be able to see the sky (that's why they fail in underground parking etc)

However, to use that position information these systems rely on maps, which can be stored like a standalone GPS, or can come in streaming over 4G for systems like phone apps
lots of apps will allow you to download offline maps for specific areas for use when you're out of tower range and will work fine because you still get your location information from the sky.

I don't know if the built in nav has the ability to download maps but if not you can definitely do it with google maps (haven't tried with waze yet)

So the answers to your questions are: yes, yes, and yes but only if you plan ahead

In addition to what @CDN-Ottawa said above, you have the ability to download 8 regions into your infotainment system, which will include more detailed data than the satellite feed. The downloads can only be done when connected to your home wifi.

You can set things up in the "Navigation" tab of the settings menu.
