I don’t think STIS is free?
Accessories instructions are free on STIS. You can perform any search you want, and it will return all results but only allow you to access some of it (such as accessory installation instructions).

Easy install though
Can you define/quantify “easy”? Just posted about this asking for a number between $0 (DIY theoretical cost) and $400 (dealer labor cost) for the DIY install. How long did it take you? Did you have issues with some clips/some other small part breaking and needing to buy extras of that part to get everything secured?

Hard to quantify other than the time it took me personally, which was about 3 hours. It could’ve been done quicker but no reason to rush it. I did pay a little to buy a torque wrench and socket set at the time, which seemed a better investment than paying dealer labor hours.
I didn’t need any extra parts and nothing broke. Ymmv. The only rework I had was due to forgetting to plug a radar sensor back in at the end. That turned out to be an easy fix and in hindsight could have been done without pulling the bumper cover off again.

As with all things, it depends on what your time is worth. Could i have done it myself? Probably. Was it worth what my personal $/hr cost is for the 4-ish hours I suspect it would have taken me? Absolutely not.

I'm excited to give this a try. What's the worse that can happen. I mess it up and have to bring it in to Subaru to fix stuff for me.....Assuming that would be cheaper than having them do it. Here in So Cal it's $1,200 to get it installed from the dealers I called....I'm just gonna buy it and cross my fingers.

Just need to get a code to get the part discount.

It looks from the video that the OEM hitch comes with a 4 and 7-pin harness but that the car only has a 4-pin plug in the cargo bay. Is there also a 7-pin connector in the car? Or does the OEM hitch come with a 4 to 7-pin convertor or do I need to buy that separately to run trailer brakes and battery charger? I've seen an E-Trailer video on installing another convertor and running wires under the car to the brake controller plug at the driver's left foot and to the battery. Is that necessary with the OEM hitch?

I'm assuming that the car does not come with a brake controller and that is a necessary after-market purchase. Any opinions on wired vs wireless brake controllers?

the bottom of the cargo area is where you plug the harness that goes to the hitch in.

the oem hitch itself does come with separate 4 pin and 7 pin connection points, one on each side of the hitch

your brake controller assumption is correct. there are many threads on the subject so that's a good place to start or ask any other questions that haven't been answered already.

I just bought the L101SXC005 kit from my dealer to install on my 2022 Ascent. It includes the H771SXC002 wiring harness (with a sticker on it that says "New Ground Design". It has a ground wire coming out of the side of the harness that plugs into the car-side plug with a ground ring on it. Also, there is a single screw (p/N 904580002) that is included in the kit (looks like it fits in the ground ring). Anyone have any idea of how this is supposed to be installed or have a link to the instructions for this version?
Here's where the new ground wire is supposed to go:

Thank you! One follow-up, is the only plug inside the cargo area a 4-pin and I need to buy a separate 4 to 7 pin conversion?

I saw that. I have no idea why that happened. It's just a screenshot from my Mac and that's now the file is named as well. Weird.
its somehow marked nsfw... I can fix it if you want, its just more fun this way

In case anyone else is hesitant, its safe

No, you do not need to buy anything like that.
