So tonight I finally installed the fog light kit on my Premium model. I normally do not care for fog lights, but the way it looks on the Premium, with the blank out for where the light would normally go, looks stupid. So I got the fog light kit. It's kind of ridiculous that it isn't standard. I mean the wire connector is already there behind the fog light, the switch connector is already there behind the instrument panel. It's like all that was left was to put the **** fog light assembly in there. Anyway, I digress. Here are the instructions:

Honestly it took me 3 hours somehow, but if I had to do it again, I could probably do it in 30 minutes, knowing what I know now.

Here are my comments on the instructions:

Step 1: The screw they are pointing to as the negative terminal is not correct, it is more to the right side of the battery.
Step 2: This is pretty straight forward. You need to remove 5 clips with the fork style trim tool to pull down the trim that will allow you to access the back of the fog light. The only pain is that you kind of have to lay on the ground if you don't have a vehicle lift like they do at the commercial car repair garage. Oh yeah, and Freeing the fog lamp harness from the tape is a pain, too. You need scissors or something to take that tape off while you are laying there.
Step 3: You use a trim tool to remove the existing fog light cover. For the Driver's side fog light, you start prying from the left (claw side). Once you get daylight and a good grip, just yank the whole thing off in one motion. You are throwing this out anyway.
Step 4: This is kind of unclear and I wasted a good amount of time on this step. My first problem is that the new fog lamps are labeled L and R. The instruction manual seems to refer to the driver's side as the R because they show a picture of the "front right mud guard" in step 2. So I installed the fog light labeled R on this side. Turns out that is wrong, and the L fog light is on the Driver's side. So I wasted time there switching it out. My second problem was that you see how there are 4 "ears", 2 of which get a clip and bolt. They only tell you about the 2 "ears" that get the clip and the bolt. They don't tell you that the other 2 "ears" actually need to slide in place into a specific slot on the side, first before setting it up to put in the clip and the bolt. I ended up putting the clip and bolt without securing the other 2 "ears" in the proper slot. When I noticed the lamp assembly was not all that secure, I had already but the new trim cover on. More wasted time going back to do that.
Step 5: Straight forward
Step 6: Straight forward. Put it back (the new one) in reverse of how you took it off.
Step 7: Straight forward now that you know how to do it.
Step 8: Straight forward
Step 9: Straight forward
Step 10: Straight forward
Step 11: This stumped me for a good 30 minutes. You need to remove the switch blank. It says to "release the claws". Well you can't exactly do this with just your hand. Also you can't get a good look at it because the switch above it is in the way. Looking at the new switch gives you a hint of how to release the blank. See how the new switch has, lets call it a little hard "shark fin" at the top and at the bottom. That is what needs to be released. To release it, you need to wedge something (the fork trim tool worked for me) in between the "fin" and the plastic piece holding it there. You have to do it at the top and at the bottom. You can do it one at a time. You can access the bottom through the opening for the fuse box.
Step 12: You will see this wrapped in foam and in tape nearby. What was a pain was that the foam was sticky and stuck to the switch connector. I don't know why that had to be sticky. I tried to take off as much as I could. Then I was stumped again for 5 minutes and the switch connector did not fit into the switch receptor. Turns out the switch connector was already connected to a dummy switch receptor that you have to disengage first. The process to remove is the same as I described in step 11.

Hopefully these comments are helpful to you if you ever try to install the fog light kit on your premium or base model. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll help as best I can.

How is the color of the lamp compared to the halogen head lamps? I was considering the fog light kit until I realized they’re LED and may look weird when on.

The LED Fog lamp is going to shine white/blue. With the the standard halogen bulb it looks a little off. I updated my headlight bulb to LED but didn’t like the light output so instead of trying another LED I went ahead a purchased better halogen numbs (Phillips crystal vision) the light is a bit whiter and matches more closely to the fog lights. The photo below is with the LED headlights but should give you a idea of the fog light output color.

Yup it's white light, but I already previously changed my headlights to LED / white. Diode Dynamics has the correct cutoff / projection replacement headlight in LED, if you were to go that route, but I believe it is sold out at the moment.

You actually received a pair of Diode Dynamics LED lol every time I look to purchase a pair they are always sold out and on back order for weeks. I am to impatient to wait that’s why I purchased a premium vs waiting on a limited. How is the light output on the DD LEDs ? Do they disperse to much light?

I am to impatient to wait that’s why I purchased a premium vs waiting on a limited. How is the light output on the DD LEDs ? Do they disperse to much light?

I actually don't have them yet LOL. I ordered them on Sept 20 and am patiently waiting. In the meantime, I'm using these by Beamtech from Amazon.
Also, I just happened to look on the Diode website and it says the H11 is in stock. But they haven't shipped them to me yet, so I e-mailed them.

I’m going to look right now.. fingers crossed.

I had the Beamtech but ended up giving them to my mother for her CX-5... the light output and cutoff look a dozen times better in the CX5 than it did in the Ascent. I think her projector housing points lower which helps.

Claims to deliver 246% MORE light in a low-beam projector, and about 105% more light in a high beam projector over halogen.

Would want to hear from real-world experience from someone who tried them.

Claims to deliver 246% MORE light in a low-beam projector, and about 105% more light in a high beam projector over halogen.

Would want to hear from real-world experience from someone who tried them.
At that point you might as well get the Diode Dynamics SL1 with the 20% promo they're current running. At least then you'll be backed by a company that's been around and stands behind their product instead of churning out so many versions that most of them suck.

Sorry just saw this... Yes I received and I would say they are about the same brightness as the beamtechs. But brightness was not the issue for me. I wanted to make sure I was using street legal headlights and not blinding anyone. The diode headlights have the proper projection and cutoff now. It is more focused than the beamtechs.

From experience junk, their beam pattern is all over the place. at least with these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LCE19OI.

Beamtech for the win for now, even HID's H11 is the same brightness.

Just installed Hikari LED on my Ascent, my personal assessment after driving around for 20 minutes in our neighborhood is below my expectations comparing it to the oem halogens. Yes, it's bright and the cut off is just right, but in terms of effective driving, I would rather have the oem stock bulbs vs. the Hikari. I will return them tomorrow (amazon) and try diode dynamics instead.

Do you guys know the bulb size of the fog light for the Ascent? Thanks!

my fog lamp/lights just arrived, do you guys know how to open the lamp assembly? I wanted to see if I can change the LED buld or halogen bulb inside. Thanks!
