My 2019 Ascent is being rebuilt, one piece at a time :-( The software has been updated numerous times. The head-unit has been replaced twice. The moonroof motor and rails have been replaced and now? The amplifier.
The dealership has offered me a new 2020, but would like me to pay another deposit of $5000 and I’d be stuck with an extra year of payments (approx $10000). Why should I pay an extra $15,000 for a problem that is not of my making? This seems not quite right to me.

Is there an industry accepted compensation structure? They’ve been very accommodating with loaners, gave me my first and second oil change for free, filled up my tank a couple of times... I just have a complete lack of confidence in the brand.

It sounds like they want to recast your lease to a new vehicle and are asking for a $5000 down payment to keep the payments the same as you have now. A down payment on a lease is almost never a good idea because it doesn't actually lower the cost of the lease. IE, your dealer is turning this into a sales opportunity rather than dealing with the issues of your specific vehicle. (every manufacturer has a vehicle come through once in awhile that just has a lot of problems) You may want to get Subaru involved here...the issue isn't the brand, it's the dealer.

On a bright side "amplifier" is known problem(TSB) and is on 3rd or 4th generation (update) now ...
I myself still on the 1st one ... I did have sound loss 1 time and sound spikes some time, on audio source change ( CarPlay to Radio or Bluetooth to Radio)
Both claim to be addressed in the last amplifier revision

C'mon guys, we all knew going in that first year models are going to have some growing pains. Any of us could have picked a safer 3-5 year old design from another company but we wanted the latest and greatest features.

Give them some time to make it right. I know of no one who has been told by Subaru that they wouldn't be taken care of. Yes, no one likes to be inconvenienced, but once they fix these issues the car will probably be very dependable. My 2010 Forester, which was also a new design at the time, has been one of the most dependable vehicles I've ever owned.

How is Subaru Canada treating you? Good, I hope?
