Impure thoughts about the Ascent

The Ascent is tempting me and I am finding myself experiencing impure thoughts regarding the Ascent vs. Outback. I have an '07 Outback XTL and have been prepping myself to buy a '19 Outback this fall. All of the good things I have been reading about the Ascent were topped off when I visited one at a dealership. My first thoughts were "wow, there is room to sit up in this thing when camping" and I was mentally measuring where my cot would fit in the back and where the refrigerator would fit. I am running out of reasons to keep my eyes closed on the Ascent... maybe I have already been disloyal in my heart; after all, I am signed on to this forum too.

The latest bits of information that are swaying me have to do with engine performance, road handling/stability, interior noise levels and drivers seat comfort.

You folks who are getting the early sales... quickly... tell me bad things about your ownership experiences over the next two or three months.... As a loyal Outback owner I need to be saved from wearing a giant letter A that will symbolize the Ascent.

Just wait for the 2020 Outback! It is going to get the 2.4T engine!

I was in the same boat but after driving the Ascent plus looking at one 2 other times I decided it was not worth the 20k over my outbacks lease payoff. Personally, if I did not need the extra room which is basically the 3rd row and the small amount of towing capacity I would opt for the Outback 3.6 in Limited trim. Last year for the six and last year production of Gen 5 which will bring a good discount. Or wait for the 2020 Outback which will grow a little and have (i think) the optional 2.4 DIT.

No, they won't. Unless something VERY strange happens, the lowest we'll see is invoice ...

I keep having to tell people, we don't have cash back, we don't have rebates, so if you can get the car at invoice, you done good.

If you can get it for invoice, tack on the Ambassador coupon and/or Loyalty incentive coupon and that's a slick deal!

Well, I do not rate that sort of appreciation, I just own a twelve year old OB that I picked up second-hand several years ago.

Ambassador coupons are like unicorns; There are rumors that they exist but they are never seen in the wild.
