My middle daughter recently got her license and was driving the ascent with my oldest back from the shop where my wife had picked up my ‘06 Forester.

Kiddo has a green arrow and noticed a truck barreling towards the intersection, tried to brake and maneuver but there just wasn’t time.

Driver of the truck hopped out and fled on foot.

Both kids are ok physically and pretty shaken mentally.

Eyewitness said the truck was going around 70LE and EMS on scene said that sounds about right given the distance both vehicles traveled.

So yeah, I’m pretty happy with how the Ascent handled it.

We are thankful to hear that your daughters are ok and the Ascent did it's job protecting them.

I know what it's like to get the call, our youngest daughter t-boned a Caravan at 55mph that made an illegal left turn her first summer home from college.

Oof... Hope they catch the guy AND he's insured...

Glad to hear your Minions walked away.

Any pictures of the other vehicle?

glad everyone is OK . I think something is very wrong with white color ascents mine got hit twice in two months (bout times the other driver foul) second hit totaled it . As long as nobody got seriously hurt its just a car...... wish you lot of patience with insurance claims.

Scary as heck looking accident! So glad your kids were okay! Our 16 yr old daughter just got her drivers license today, so your story definitely made me shudder. (but so very glad to see proof of how safe our car is!)

Agree.

My almost 14yo daughter is already asking about which car she can drive when she gets her permit and license.

The Ascent. Period.

(The other option is a 2020 Mini Cooper Countryman JCW with 301hp, so...no)

So happy your kids are safe! The car is quite a distance from the light!! Best of luck on getting her confidently behind the wheel again.

This caught my eye since I literally just finished watching the youtube videos of the IIHS crash tests, this car is impressive. Still have many years until my girls are driving, but I'm glad we have a Subaru to help keep them safe until then.

When we faced that same situation a few years ago, it was very comforting that we had a Subaru in the driveway that was slated for our daughter to drive for similar reasons. Safety is unmatched. She's on her second one new. :)

She's going to learn on the Ascent. She'll probably wind up with a Forester or CrossTrek when the time comes for her own car. Maybe a CRV or RAV4.
