It's a public post. So, no log in is required. I prefer sending people to the source instead of copying, when it's public.

I don't know why the forum software is doing that lately. It should have shown you the story and pics.

I've posted a screenshot below (and the pics). You should have seen something like the screenshot. I'll report it to the back end team next week when I get back to my computer.

I wanted to follow up since I did hear from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and here is their response:

"Thanks for contacting the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. We did not test the Subaru Ascent with the moonroof. However, there should be no difference on roof strength regardless of moonroof or not. For our roof crush tests, all the strength comes from the A-pillar, roof rail, windshield header support and B-pillar. The sheet metal roof and/or sunroof offer no additional structural support. I hope this information helps."

So there you have it. Subaru needs to make a truck ; )

No, they don’t need to make a truck. We don’t need more abominations like the Gladiator messing up the market.
Am I the only one that still lusts after a Baja (or similar unibody with a bed if anyone wants to argue definition of a truck)?? I feel the current Outback would make a great base lol but I hear ya on the gladiator

The Chevy Avalanche and other similar attempts didn't fare well or last long in the marketplace.
The bean counters, focus groups, and (possibly AI bots) seem to determine what is produced. SUVs and 4 door half-ton pickups have taken that place in the market, though the Honda ridgeline seems to do fairly well.

That’s a classic, and the Ford Maverick aligns with it. As others stated, they are always limited runs as they don’t pan out fiscally for most companies.

Even Honda had to separate the bed on the Ridgeline to compete in the NASCAR truck series, for which it was introduced for to compete with Toyota.

I do thing a removable rear cargo cover on an outback would be cool but may seriously compromise the rollover safety Subaru has been so focused on as of late.

Sadly, yes, almost the only one, hence the Baja never sold, and nothing else in the segment sells (eg: Hyundai Santa Cruz).

Was it that the vehicle solved the question no one ever asked? Did anyone ever want an SUV with an openable rear wall of the passenger compartment and an open trunk?

Or, was it that no one wanted a vehicle named after a life-threatening collapsing mountainside?

Studebaker had a different approach...

Love Studebakers. But I can't even imagine how leaky that roof must have been. All of my 50's, 60's and 70's American cars had their less than endearing leaks.
True, this model Stude was known for leaking both from above and below.

My 'slant nosed' 2000 RS from bouncing off a mountain with multiple rollovers onto its wheels along Route 33, North of Ojai California on 4.01.2001...
Wearing a 5pt harness help keep my butt in the seat when the car left tarmac... My insurance agent at the time didn't find it all too funny when I gave him a call.

I have this picture ensconced in thick acrylic on my upstairs 'landing' as a reminder for when I leave the house...

I'm on Subaru #4 now...
