I was trying to get Android Auto working with a new Limited Ascent 2020 (Kardon Head Unit) and Essential PH-1 phone. I updated the Kardon firmware to the most recent version as of today, i.e., Rel_UF.20.28.70 NAFTA from August 26, 2020, got one of the recommended cables (see below), but it didn't help. The solution however is to use a USB hub. At the moment Android Auto works more or less, ok, it disconnects every 20 minutes, and the phone is barely charging through the USB hub (it shows as it's charging, but the charge current is next to zero), so not sure how it will work on long trips.

My setup:

Anker 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub, Ultra-Slim Data USB Hub with 2 ft Extended Cable [Charging Not Supported], for MacBook, Mac Pro, Mac mini, iMac, Surface Pro, XPS, PC, Flash Drive, Mobile HDD
Amazon.com: Anker 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub, Ultra-Slim Data USB Hub with 2 ft Extended Cable [Charging Not Supported], for MacBook, Mac Pro, Mac mini, iMac, Surface Pro, XPS, PC, Flash Drive, Mobile HDD: MP3 Players & Accessories

Samsung USB-C Data Charging Cable for Galaxy S9/S9+/Note 9/S8/S8+ - Black EP-DG950CBE- 100% Original - Bulk Packaging
Amazon.com: Samsung USB-C Data Charging Cable for Galaxy S9/S9+/Note 9/S8/S8+ - Black EP-DG950CBE- 100% Original - Bulk Packaging

Let me know if anyone has a better setup, i.e., a USB hub that allows charging maybe?
