What is generally considered a given dealer's market geography relative to this? That's important to know relative to this topic for folks wanting to shop around for the Subaru Gold Extended Service Contract.
Because the geographic distribution is so variable, I don't think there's a set mileage.

I also suspect that they are no longer allowed to sell at cost or just above it. That hurts smaller dealerships.

Bummer. My plan was to acquire two of them later this year, probably from Dan. I'm not a fan of pricing restrictions like that.

I would like to hear from forum posters of their experience actually using the Gold warranty. What type of warranty issue were you addressing? How well was it handled by the Gold warranty? Do you believe the Gold warranty had real value? I suspect not many have used it yet since most of our vehicles are new, but even with lower mileage the Gold warranty holds additional more robust coverage.

The Gold extended service contract (and that's what it is, not a "warranty") is pretty darn comprehensive and covers everything that's not specifically excluded. You are correct that it doesn't come into play much until the OEM 3/26 warranty expires, however. The good thing about a manufacturer backed extended service contract is that it's valid and automagical at any authorized dealer...it's tagged to your VIN.

yes, but have many owners used it yet for the Ascent on items not covered under the 3yr/36000? A service contract provides comfort but not always savings.

Is dealer area a state line, county line or some other demarcation?
I asked this of Robert earlier in this...or some...thread. It's "Market Area" and not defined exactly the same everywhere. I can do business with Dan at Liberty over in NJ being that I'm in SE PA and there is a lot of cross state line sales between PA and NJ....same general marketplace. I suspect he can sell into the NY Metro area, too. But folks farther afield, apparently can no longer buy the contracts from afar. You can likely figure out "in general" what your local market territory is by observing things like advertising patterns to some extent, but that's not always going to be a good "science project" because dealers are going to advertise in the space that the majority of their business comes from even if they can do business with folks a little farther to the fringe of their so-called market area. So clear, right? LOL :D

Seems like dealers aren't supposed to sell outside of their area, but they definitely do. As far as I can tell, there's no way to stop dealers from selling to folks outside of their market.
There actually is.
