I’m currently at 8k miles on the Ascent and have notice a strange jump or jerk seconds after starting the vehicle. It feels as if the transmission is shifting. I just push the start button and within a couple seconds you feel a noticeable shift. Doesn’t happen every time but I’d say more than less. Is this normal or has anyone else noticed this?

I have noticed this. It's more of a miss in the motor than anything to do with the transmission.

NOT the transmission...

Double stutter on start:
The car will "stutter" up to twice once you start it. That's totally normal and absolutely not the transmission. It's the waste gate flipping and resetting. One should not start the car and shift it into drive soon enough to feel the effect of that on driving. It happens in the first 3-8 seconds of having started the car.

Harsh Shift:
If you're at or near 2,000 rpm, and driving at a steady speed, and the drive train isn't under heavy load, then, when the car upshifts for economy, you may feel a harsher shift because things aren't under load. That's normal, and simply the upshift itself.

Could also be ac compressor and or brake ABS cycle check.
We already had one video-taped, tested, and evaluated by the Ascent Specialist. I forgot to post that above. Sorry. But yes, at various intervals, those two too can cause similar stutters to the double wastegate flutter at start.

Thanks for the information guys!

I haven’t noticed this when I’m driving. It’s only happening when I start my car. before I even touch the shifter it jerks. The rpm’s do not change up or down when it happens.

It sounds like this might be normal for this vehicle.

Normal CVT chirp.

Also, Has anybody noticed a chirp when going from P-R when cold?
The chirping sound is totally normal. The pulleys that drive or are driven by the CVT chain are hydraulically filled. This is totally normal on both high torque CVTs (the one mated to the Outback 3.6R's H6 and to the WRX's equipped with a CVT, as well as to the one mated to the 2.4DIT in the Ascents).

From Subaru:
"...the CVT (filling) up both primary and secondary pulleys (causes) this chirping noise and at times a surging until pressure equalizes. Noise is considered normal."
Because of the way the system works, and how long it takes for pressure to drop when the car is off, and the temperature and a variety of other factors, the car may or may not chirp when shifted from Park to Reverse or Drive. That too is perfectly normal since it's those very conditions that determine if it chirps or not (if it needs to equalize pressure or not).

Yep, that's the wastegate. Totally normal. All Ascents do that by design.
