I live in South Florida, the land of afternoon thunderstorms...but this past labor day weekend it literally looked and felt like a hurricane. Next thing I know, one of the kids looks out the window and shouts, "the basketball hoop is on the car!" FML...

The pole from the hoop ended up lying on top of the fender as you can see below. Fender is all distorted making it look like the hood is damaged, but its "just" the fender.

Then the backboard itself scratched the A pillar on the other side. Relatively minor...could have been worse...but 🤬🤬!!!

There's a link in a thread somewhere around here where a pdr is repairing the fender of an ascent because a basketball hoop fell over onto the left fender. The repair was meticulous and came out awesome.

dang that hurts.... time to drive it into the incinerator ... lol

But yeah, I feel your pain, bro. I was at a Galveston beach* and a 10x10 canopy flew back and hit three places. I managed to buffed two spots out but one spot chipped.

I'm totally thinking about paintless repair if possible for the fender and some touch up on the A pillar. It BURNS me to put paint on a new car.

Sucks... :(
Was that a portable hoop? I've had mine tip a few times. Missed a car by about an inch once! It helps to drop it to the lowest height but it's best to anchor or tie it to something. A corkscrew style mobile home anchor or dog anchor should work pretty well.

Yep, the base is full of water but the wind knocked it over anyways. The Ascent is now on the other end of the driveway. Lesson learned. Somehow, I've manage not to set the hoop on fire. Guess I'll have to tie it down.

My close call from a while back. o_O It actually notched in right between two cars. It's closer to the minivan though.
is the car on the right parked on top of the backboard?

@latapx are you going to make an insurance claim? would it be homeowners/renters or auto insurance?

Nope. I can see how the pic makes it look like that though.

It ought to be the comprehensive auto policy for the car and home policy if the hoop is damaged and wanting to be claimed/replaced (don't recommend that btw).
