Price is very subjective and very negotiable since they are available from any Subaru dealership. Shop around and get the best price. Several threads here on identifying those dealers that will sell the official warranty from Subaru for a fixed cost of $100 over their dealer cost.
Except California.

Does anyone know if the price of the extended warranty change the later you buy it or not? Does the extended period start from date of purchase, or does it start at the end of the factory warranty?

I've been burned by another brand, where the extended period started from date of purchase. So in effect, you were covered by the standard warranty at the same time the extended started - but gained no additional coverage during the factory warranty period.

The warranty costs certainly can increase with time, as all costs can. Likely it will. The extended period starts where the factory warranty ends off. That's why it's sometimes better to hold off getting the factory extended warranty until later; while it might go up, at least you haven't bought something that isn't in effect for 3 years/36,000 miles. Besides, you might change your mind and not keep the car that long. If you don't, it's prorated and you'll get a refund of the balance when you cancel the extended warranty. Or you could use it's value and pass along to the new owner, thereby increasing the car's resale value.

The price isn't guaranteed not to change during the time you wait to purchase the extended service contract. There have been several incremental price increases over the past year, AFAIK. That's part of the balancing act between buying it "now" or buying it just prior to expiry of the OEM warranty. In either case, the mileage and time for the extended service contract still starts at "day one/mile one" when the original delivery to the consumer happens. IE, a 10 year/100K mile extended service contract ends at the same time regardless of when you purchase in the window of time that you can purchase it.

Always starts from day one you bought the car....so overlaps for first 3 yrs with original manufacturers warranty.

the extended warranty is more comprehensive in what is covered than the original 3yr./36000.

Buying now, the price is "locked in". While I was waiting for my car to be 'built" in 2018, the price went up twice by a total of $220. Also, by purchasing now you have coverage for "Wear and Tear" - that includes the following:
Cruise control, radio and speakers,
seat belt assembly, rear window defogger,
thermostat, springs,
engine brackets (including power steering),
gear shift levers, hand brake levers,
pedals, cables and latches, locks,
seat releases, heater and a/c ducts
vents, wiper arms, window tracks, guides,
handles, knobs, frame, floor boards, body joints
O2 and knock sensors, CD player, DVD player.
power seat motors and navigational system
