Hi all. Walking up to my Touring Ascent with the doors locked and trying to open the door has become a major frustration. The software says it is up to date. Below are the symptoms. Any help would be appreciated.
Car is locked. Place my hand on the handle and pull: car door partially opens (about 1/4 inch) and won’t open further. The car will beep 1-5 times. I have to shut the door and try again. Car door partially opens (about 1/4 inch) and won’t open further. The car will beep 1 time. I keep trying and the door will not open. I push the middle button on the fob, the car beeps, unlocks and the driver side door opens fine.
Car is locked. Place my hand on the handle and pull: no beep. Car panic alarm goes off (and the neighbors are now awake). I push any button on the fob and the alarm stops and I can open the door.

I approach the locked car and press the middle button on the fob. The car beeps and I hear the doors unlock. Place my hand on the handle and pull: car door partially opens (about 1/4 inch) and won’t open further. I push the door closed and the car beeps. I remove my hand and then place my hand on the handle and pull: the car door opens.

Car door partially opens (about 1/4 inch) and won’t open further. I push the door closed all the way. I push the lock strips on the handle, the car beeps and I hear the lock activate. Place my hand on the handle and pull: the car will either: partially opens (about 1/4 inch) and won’t open further or just beep 3-5 times and won’t open at all. I push the middle button on the fob and the door unlocks and I can get in fine.
The car experiences these symptoms about 65% of the time I try to open the driver side of the locked car. The most reliable way to get into the car is to push the middle button as I approach the car. The guy at the dealership said the feature can't be removed and to place my hand on the door handle and wait for a beep and then open the door. He said I was going too fast. Doing this only improved the reliability of 1-2% but doesn't solve the issue as you read above.
This also happens more often when the car has been sitting for a while.
Have you tried grabbing the handle without pulling until the lock releases by sensing your hand? "Pull" doesn't unlock...the sensor in the handle does that. There is a slight delay from when you touch it and when things go click.
Just for grins, consider changing the battery in your fob. If that doesn't solve the issue, you'll want to make an appointment to have the service team check out the system.
