Hello all. Can anybody using CarPlay confirm if you are able to "drag" a map on the display or pinch to zoom? If so, would you be so kind as to tell me: (1) if you're using Apple Maps or Google Maps, (2) your iPhone model, and (3) your Ascent model?

I am in a 2020 Limited. If I use Android Auto, I have full "drag to move" and "pinch to zoom" functionality in Google Maps. However, when I connect an iPhone using CarPlay, I cannot drag the map using my finger, nor can I pinch to zoom. This is regardless of whether I'm using Apple Maps or Google Maps. I have to use the little arrows or the +/- keys on the touchscreen itself. Has anyone else experienced this?

What iPhone are you using? I tried with an iPhone 7 and am wondering if a newer model might have the functionality.
Nope. It’s not the phone, it’s the implementation of CarPlay that makes the difference.

Between my kid, partner and I, we have iPhone 9, 11 and 12 and none of them do it on the Ascent. They all do it on our other cat, a 2020 Mini Cooper Countryman.

Wondering if Subaru can push an update, or will include that implementation in the ‘23s

I don't understand why it doesn't work, but I don't use iPhones for more than work (and they're pretty locked down). Android Auto supports that for all mapping software, as does the built in Navigation.

Has any of you iPhone users tried Waze or Google Maps? Is it all mapping software or just Apple's?

I confirm that with an iPhone, the restriction applies both to Apple Maps and to Google Maps. I haven't tried Waze.

I use Google Maps from iOS via CarPlay. I'll have to check next time I'm driving (and remember to do it...) to see what moves or not...

Wireless dongle? What is it, and can I install it on my 2020 Limited?
There are multiple threads on that topic here...just be sure to choose one that's known to work with the Ascent.

Doesn’t matter. CarPlay is CarPlay

I always assumed our touchscreen didn’t support multi touch. Even on the head unit Home Screen only one button responds at any time.

i think dongle overrights handshake commands for carplay and then iphone decides its valid option..

I have never used Apple Maps, and stopped using Waze awhile ago. I can say that I've recently rented a Nissan Altima, a Hyundai Sonata and a VW Tiguan and none of them allowed "pinch-to-zoom" or "touch-to-drag" with Google Maps on CarPlay. Which is what leads me to believe it's the CP implementation native to the Ascent (and those other 3).

I think it got to do with handshake from subaru unit to the iphone , Subaru unit reports NO support to Iphone
but Wireless dongle overwrite handshake to add Wireless features +enebles "Drag to move"

FIY dongle supports adds "touch-to-drag" only no "pinch-to-zoom"
That makes sense to me. Not sure if it's true or not (since I'm not smart enough to figure it out) but it certainly tracks
