What a roller coaster these past 2-3 weeks has been! I went from hoping for a repairable car, to expecting a total loss, then being told it was fixable, then officially totaled.
Two days ago the insurance appraiser gave an initial esitmate of $14k to replace front and rear doors, rear quarter panel, etc. This included two components of the B-pillar (the most concerning thing to me). That seemed too wide of a gap for a total loss. I thought the burden would be on me to go ahead with the repair, then turn around and sell it (or keep it), and fight for diminished value.
I went to the collision shop yesterday to remove some things I knew would just get scattered or lost during the repair. Luckily I did that. I ended up having a conversation with the shop manager who said he wouldn't fix it. If it was deemed to be a "fixer", then he would refuse the work. I'll leave out any more details, but as of this morning it's officially a total loss. I went back today to take everything I could that would transfer over to my new 2023 arriving in a week or so.
