I knew there was a similar thread like this somewhere here, but I don't remember seeing this below tip for anyone still looking to finance their new ride.

So, I was looking for the best rates near me and only the credit unions are having good rates compare to regular banks and dealer. I went on researching and I found this link https://www.depositaccounts.com/credit-unions/anyone-can-join/
You will find many credit unions who will accept anyone from anywhere to become a member...may need to pay small fee (donation etc)

I went with Alabama Credit Union I live in PA) and I got 2.24% for 48 months. My local CU offers 2.99.

Another tip: I was discussing with my dealer finance guy regarding some other stuff and he asked my about my rate and after I told him he said even their CU also giving the best rate 2.49% for 36 months (He actually gave me a much higher rate couple weeks ago)

Don't apply through the link...I believe you need to become a member first and then apply for a loan. I had to make a small donation ($10 or more) to 'Secret meal association' to become a member and then I applied for the loan. You can call them directly and get the info. All this process took me about a week. Too much time before our Ascents get to us :tango_face_wink:

Wish I could add all of you as friends to the CPFCU that I belong to. Got in at a rate of .08 for 60 during a 'high speed chase' promo. Made by just a few days before the promo ended. Their standard new car rates start at 1.49.

If your are a member of the LE community, I believe you qualify.

I typically get pre-approved with PenFed before buying a vehicle. Sometimes the dealer will meet or beat and I'll give them that extra piece of the deal; sometimes they can't beat it. First Outback, they did; second, they couldn't come close in that particular time period.

Any members looking for a good rate...

If you are a police officer or a family member of a police officer in a federal police credit union you can apply for 1.49 for 60 months. Here is the link. I’m using it for my 2019 Forester. Available for a limited time.

The best I can find so far is PenFed @ 2.49 for 36 months, the rest seem to be in the 3.4x% for 48 and 60 months.

My credit union is 2.58% for most terms (up to 60) but since I am in LE I am going to try to contact that Chicago one. I am a DA not PD though so I don't know how finicky they are about branches or peace officer status.

How about here in Southern California. I'm planning to get mine via Wescom credit union.

And also, it is wise to get pre-approved first before going to your dealer?

I would get pre approved. Subaru rates in SoCal is 4%+. My wife works at LA Metro and was able to get 2.74 % for 60 months with 10% down (down could be done at dealership or with credit union). I would do the whole 10% down at the dealership with a CC to get points. My wife and I didn't know and we only did 1k.

GAP through them was $375.

Someone on here posted that their credit union was offering 2.74% at Commonwealth One in VA. I'm in WI and thought I'd try my luck applying there. Got approved for 2.74%, but one person there made it sound like there could be an issue with me becoming a member. Another person I talked to there made it sound like it's not a big deal as long as you have direct deposit.
Whoever posted that - Thank you very much! You saved me a bunch of interest I would have paid going through Chase at 3.5%. :)
