Cold start RPM-New to CVTs

Hello,

Just shy of 3000 miles on my Premium Ascent. I still really like this car, my favorite to date for sure. I'm new to CVTs ,and Subarus as well. When I first get the car started, it generally shoots up to around 2000rpm. I'd say it lasts for less than a minute each time. Is that normal? It happens on flat and less level surfaces, outside temperature has no effect. I can't find anything in the instruction manual about optimum rpm ratings.

Not cvt related even my 2001 Subaru did that. Its a warm up cycle. All cars do it. My V8 Toyota races the engine for three blocks on cold mornings

Thank you. The other three cars I've had never went that high, so I don't have much of a frame of reference.
Yeah, it's to get the coolant up to temp.

Another thing you may notice is that if you start the car up and start driving immediately, that rpms will be oddly high like 2000-3000 just going like 25mph.
I believe that it's also to help warm up the catalytic converter faster for "better/lower" emissions.
