I have a 2019 Ascent Touring and about a week or so ago starting having an issue when I plug in my iPhone X. CarPlay basically takes over and I can ONLY use CarPlay, I can't use FM, AM or SXM, they come on and shut off / go silent after about 2 seconds.

I've tried:
  • rebooting my phone
  • forgetting the car and resetting up CarPlay
  • different cords
  • plugging in after the car is started vs. unstarted
  • updating my phone
  • checking CarPlay settings
I can't figure this out and it's driving me crazy as I like to listen to SXM on my commute.

Has anyone else had this issue or figured out a solution? Thanks!

P.S. My husband has the same phone and it is not happening for him.

That's a major troubleshooting clue right there. What you state isn't an issue that I recall ever being mentioned...so I'm guessing there is something amiss with your phone if your husband's identical phone works correctly.

I have found that if I have an app open that makes sound through car play (podcast, music) and unplug it. The next time I connect apple carplay it tries to connect to it and accesses the app and sometimes it wont even open it. Then it either picks up where I left off or sits there and waits for me to hit play. Annoying but I have been able to figure it out and kill the offending app. Maybe the Apple watch helps me to find the mystery app better....

You would think so but we have checked out phones - same IOS, same updates, same Carplay settings. There is nothing obvious that is different and it just started happening out of the blue about a week ago (I didn't make any changes).

This had happened to me. I’m pretty sure that I’ve posted about it before. Weirdly, it just went away one day and now it never happens. Your guess is as good as mine. I have a 2020 Limited and and IPhone 11.
