November of 2021 I received my ordered 2022 Subaru Ascent Touring. I was on the Ohio turnpike last Friday (Good Friday, 4pm, near Cleveland) when all of the sudden my rpm’s started bouncing back and forth between 3-4, my mpg gauge was sliding back and forth between yellow and green, and pressing the accelerator while the engine revved and the car lost speed. I was in the far left lane of the turnpike and had to dodge traffic to get to safety. My radio was up so I’m not sure about any odd noises. I turned the car off for about 10 minutes and ended up making it to my destination. Monday I took my car to the dealership where they kept it a few days, but no issues were found! They drove it 35 miles over three days. This car is less than 5 months old with under 6,000 miles! This was extremely scary situation that no matter how great the safety standards are could have been VERY bad. It sounds a lot like the stories I have heard about the 2019 transmission issues. Has anyone else had this happen?

I’ve never had any issues with my 2021 Touring. Definitely not normal. Could you replicate the problem? Was there A check engine light? It almost sounds as if you hit a patch of sand, gravel or ice that caused a loss of traction and the vehicles stability control kicked in.

I’m not sure about any lights I was so worried about getting to safety. So far can’t replicate. Although I did notice a little hesitation when accelerating from a stop last night. I don’t generally drive on highways or turnpikes every day. Road was clear and I don’t know a ton about cars but I don’t think that would that effect the rpm’s to be high and bounce between 3-4, my mpg slider quickly sliding between yellow and green, engine revving when gas was pushed and not accelerating, and the car to quickly lose speed? Also cruise control was not on.

Very strange. With all those symptoms, you’d think it should have thrown a check engine light. If it happens again, I’d drive straight to an Auto Zone parts store and have them check for any error codes. Should be free. Then, go to the dealer with that info and have them fix whatever is wrong under warranty.

Just out of curiosity, was there a passenger in the front seat who had just crossed/uncrossed their legs when this happened?
