I"m deciding on a bike rack (platform for 2 Trek hybrid road bikes) and am down to the Thule from a local Subaru dealer that is running a great sale or the 1up USA. This is the first time I've had a hitch mounted rack on an SUV, so would like to know thoughts/opinions on which of these is better for not interfering with the back up camera, would be best for long trips and has the smallest profile when folded up.

The 1up USA is awesome. It is so easy to use and folds into a small package for storage.It isn't the lightest rack but is definitely the one of the toughest. I've had two of there roof racks on my 14 Outback for 6 years straight before I converted them into the hitch rack. They still look as good as the day I bought them. Plus they sell every replacement part with free shipping. I ran into a garage with the bikes on the roof. No bikes were harmed but I bent a couple of the arms and the repair was easy as the whole thing just bolts together.

With two bikes you can position them so it you can see through them with the backup camera.

Thanks.... their description isn't clear - it tilts with the bikes on so you can open the rear hatch - correct?

yes... the tilt down with 2 bike trays allows the rear hatch to open with any bike I've tried in the inboard tray including long flat bars on the MTB. This is with 1up mounted in factory hitch location which is quite high in a worst case kind of way for racks. I've owned several racks and used many others on friends cars and I'm happier with the 1up than any other. This is the only rack I've seen that i believe will outlast the car and move to the next one.

visibility with 2 bikes on trays is passable but once empty and folded up the backup camera is 100% obscured with 2 trays installed. With a single tray I was able to half tilt up and the door cleared while empty and camera view is good. I'll post again with a pic from my phone.

Thanks, the 1 up is $75 more than the Thule, but after reading and seeing the responses, it looks like money well spent.

i would go with 1UP. The only downside is the RAB. Be prepared to be annoyed with the RAB warning.

You may want to consider getting the EZ Pull Handle as well. Makes it much easier to position the trays up or down.

FWIW: The founder/designer of 1UP had a falling out, left, and started another company with a "improved" design rack with a number of purported benefits over the 1UP. I have not personally seen these, but worth a look, anyway.

I ordered the 1up one bike version because 99% I’m driving by myself. That was one of the benefits for me vs something like kuat Sherpa which just had 2 bike option. It’s hard to find anybody who dislikes the 1up
